That comes out on the New Year, in place of the monthly newsletter clue.

Anyway, some predictions:
Blue is the Warmest Color
A Matter of Life and Death
Midnight Cowboy
The Apu Trilogy
Bicycle Thieves

Oh, i hadn't realised that the announcement day is so close.
Time passes by quickly!!!

Hope one of the batch is a film I'm interested in, as a Christmas present to me..

Especially as Easter is in April this year. Maybe will get an upgrade of DeMille's The King of Kings.

Well, I hope you have a good b-day. Since that means that I will, if we're talking about Mulholland Dr.

I just finished watching the Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-ray, and it somehow seems right to follow it up with the Criterion Blu-ray of Time Bandits. Both films feature a motley assortment of characters, they both involve a stolen "MacGuffin" item, and they both have a similarly fun "WTF?" aura about them, although I seem to remember Time Bandits being a bit darker.

I have not seen Time Bandits in over 30 years. I saw it in 1983, during the summer before I started sixth grade, when it aired in the middle of the night on HBO while some neighborhood friends and I were spending the night at one friend's house down the street. We had made S'mores over a campfire in the woods behind our neighborhood earlier that night, then gone inside to watch an MTV video countdown ("Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran and "Every Breath You Take" by The Police were featured prominently in the countdown.). We then stayed up way being as disruptive as we could without waking up this friend's parents. At some point, when we were winding down, Time Bandits started, and we all ended up staying awake through the whole movie. It's really amazing how much of that movie I still remember, considering that I saw it so long ago in the wee hours of the night.

Terry Gilliam movies are a mixed bag with me, and, quite frankly, Time Bandits is the only one that I have been interested in owning, if, for nothing else, to capture and encase another spark of memory from my childhood.

Tonight's viewing should be fun.

12 Monkeys is my favorite Gilliam film. Which has a nice Criterion connection
Fear & Loathing is a hilarious and thought provoking trip as well. I enjoy revisiting it every few years.

Hi Polaroid,

I did not know this BIOT you spoke about twice this year... Thanks !

But it is not so interesting for us, Europeans:
as this is almost the same prices than for the B&N sale, the difference is only on shipping, that seems cheaper (at least at first sight)
But if you buy more 5 discs or more, B&N becomes the cheapest one again in shipping
And I do not even account the 30% / 20% coupons..

So you should concentrate on B&N

But it is great though, it allows an extended period of Criterion compulsive buying.

Edit: Well, I am mistaken, it might compete with the B&N sale : it is at least $0.45 cheaper for most discs than the B&N sale. So in fact in theory B&N becomes cheaper, not with 5+ discs, but with 42+ (42! it is a sign !). And I do not even account some titles like My Darling Clementine that are $2.04 cheaper at BIOT. But obviously there are these B&N coupons that may change everything, and these more expensive disc at BIOT like Macbeth and The Innocents that can change things too

Blow it out there on eBay is my favourite place to source my Criterions, their prices are really good, especially in their sales!

I have never used B&N out of fear, I have heard horror stories on shipping issue and customs charges etc lol

I really don't know much about B&N tbh, only if in America and there is a sale, then go crazy! lol

B&N aren't as horrible as people make them out to be. I had a couple issues in the past, but their customer service was top notch. They sent me tow copies of Dazed and Confused one sale, and basically refunded my money, and told me to keep the extra copy, which I ended up trading to get Cul-De-Sac. Mind you, I am in Canada, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I still usually have to wait 3 weeks or more to get my items. I get antsy about shipping with them, but I also get antsy about shipping from Amazon Canada. I'm just impatient. :P

Right now, I'm currently waiting for the following items from B&N:

Order 1 - November 11th, Shipped November 19th:
To Be or Not to Be - 19.99
The Ministry of Fear - 14.99
It Happened One Night - 19.99
50% off sale, no coupons

Order 2 - November 27th, Shipped December 1st
Red River - 17.49
50% off sale, BF 30% off coupon

Order 3 - December 1st, Shipped December 4th
My Darling Clementine - 14.99
50% off sale, CM 25% off coupon
Order 4 - December 11th, Shipped this morning
Time Bandits - 22.03
Price cut to 29.38, 25% off family coupon

Prices aren't factoring in the shipping or Canadian exchange, but the items are still significantly cheaper than Amazon Canada right now. In fact, for It Happened One Night, only Marketplace sellers are offering it, and want close to 50 dollars for it. Time Bandits has been driven up to 43 bucks with a 3-6 week wait for shipping.

The Criterion Blu-ray of Time Bandits is pretty sweet.

I watched the actual movie last night, and am now going through the special features. The fold-out Criterion leaflets have caused some annoyance, judging from posts in this thread, but I think that the foldout map setup of this one is perfect, considering its relevance to the film.

I chuckled at the scenes with Ralph Richardson as the Supreme Being, because, just last week, I enjoyed his performance as the Crypt Keeper in Tales from the Crypt (1972), which was just released by Scream Factory.

I also love how David Warner's role as Evil in Time Bandits blends seamlessly with his role as Ed Dillinger / Sark / Master Control Program in Tron (1982). Computers and technology can, indeed, be quite wicked. I'll be watching David Warner again soon, since my UK Blu-ray set of The Omen Trilogy arrived in the mail a few days back.

Time Bandits is the most accessible Terry Gilliam film, and, based on the others that I have seen (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Meaning of Life, Brazil, The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, etc.), I think that it's his best film by a long mile. It's a fun movie all around, with tangible special effects in the days before computer animation, and a good mix of comedy and bleakness.

The conclusion of Time Bandits threw me off when I was a kid, but I appreciate it quite well now.

Nope, Brothers Grimm is his most accessible film. Most people criticise it because it's so accessible. I love it, personally. Heath Ledger and Matt Damon pair quite well together, and Peter Stormare is utterly fantastic as Cavaldi. He's the best part of the film.

The difference between Blowitoutahere and Barnes and Noble however is that BIOH ships with international priority airmail while B&N ships with the standard option. I don't know for Europe but with BIOH, I receive my orders in 1 week in Canada. They also process the orders faster. During the last B&N sale, some of my orders took about 1 week and a half just to be shipped, and only after I contacted them.
