When I was making my wild guess, I had considered the fact that Baby Face has already been released on DVD, but then again, both versions of My Darling Clementine had also been released as a double feature on DVD by Fox Home Video as part of the Studio Classics line, before Criterion upgraded the title to blu-ray.
But aren't the Freaks video rights owned by Warner? Did Criterion make mention of it being an actual Warner film or something owned by Warner?

I don't know that any one film proved to be a tipping point for the Code to be strictly enforced.

That's a great question regarding whether the unnamed title would be an actual Warner Brothers film, and the honest answer is that I can't find a definite answer online.

Well, isn't that an interesting twist? Maybe my own prejudices have been exposed. I always think of a film, especially from that era, belonging to the studio that produced and/or distributed it, not the conglomerate that owns it or distributes it now.

For example, even though Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer purchased the 1931 version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde from Paramount Pictures back in 1940 so that they could go ahead with their plans to film the 1941 remake with Spencer Tracy, I still think of the 1931 version with Fredric March as a Paramount (not an MGM) film. Similarly, Fox Home Video is distributing a lot of the MGM catalog these days, but despite the Fox logos, I still think of them as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer films.

You've made me wonder ... perhaps we'll finally find out the answer tomorrow!

Is the 40% off of the listing price, or current price?

I didn't ask because they always do their sales off MSRP. I can almost guarantee this will be the case with this sale.

Also, does anyone know of any coupons that will be valid during this sale? Member or otherwise?

I used to work in a BN and the answer should be yes to both counts. Member being an absolute bet.

I'm excited about tomorrow.

I miss the days where the Criterion facebook page was poppin'. They used to give hints and do cool things with the fans. Now it's a totally silent wasteland with people mostly using it to advertise their own pages.

I've spent the longest time resisting the urge to buy the Criterion DVD of Le Samourai, hoping for a Blu-ray.

My #1 most wanted, however, is The American Friend. I'll be overjoyed if it's one of the Wim Wenders films that are coming.

I would say that Boyhood is coming in March, just in time for the Oscars.
Also, either of the two Anderson films would be awesome; Criterion has done a perfect job on each of his films. Also, a Malick would be nice, and so would a Lynch, preferably Mulholland Drive.

Really glad to see 'Bicycle Thieves', Chaplin, and Rossellini's War trilogy on the list. Thanks for posting, iScottie!

No Leslie Howard 'Pygmalion', though

I just saw that there's a coupon that runs through the end of the year for 30% off Barnes and Noble Selects blu-rays and DVDs, whatever those are. I assume "Selects" aren't Criterions?

Did anybody else get a $10 gift card in the mail from Barnes & Noble as a thanks for being a good member? I received mine a couple weeks back, and it's in my wallet now.

I'll probably use it in conjunction with the 20% off coupon tomorrow to buy Tootsie.
