Because its pretty obvious and I look it up and research, and there are a lot of film on there that I do't like genre wise, kids cartoons, superhero films, romcoms, tacky corny comedies etc. Also I rarely see anything new on there, not sure if there is a setting to change that but when browsing through the awful menu layout, I just come across the same stuff lol.

I have tried watching a lot of film on there I have never hear dog and while I found a few great films worth the time, majority of the time it wasn't enjoyable.

I mean I watched Hansel & Gretal Witch Slayer the other day......... I was that desperate to find something new on there....... MANY regrets haha.

I mean have you busy seen Midnight Meat Train rofl?

And as I said I haven't see L'AVVENTURA yet. Feel free to buy me a copy and send if you want to change my mind :P lol

Don't Look Now cover for me doesn't really reflect the film as well as it could - it remind me of this:

It's taken a certain element and just blown it up and in a way made it quite deceiving lol
easy, P. at best I'm being conversational. at worst, I'm just ball busting.

don't let stream of consciousness connections cloud your analytical ability. outside of the fact that the two cover designs chose a single object as the focal point on a white background, they really don't have much in common.

I don't know if scissors are a murder weapon or how they represent the movie because I have never seen the LVT film. is it fair to guess that someone gets it with the scissors? (rhetorical, but you can answer explicitly in spoilers if you like) a red coat is not a murder weapon. the Antichrist cover cheapens that film assuming that there is more art to be found in that film than say, any of the Saw movies.

have you seen Don't Look Now? if it
[Show spoiler]was a bloody axe on the cover, then THAT would be cliche
. again, don't let a stream of conscious connection ruin something else that, IMO, is rather well done. if I allowed that to happen, many good pop songs would be ruined because I'd associate them w/ how I recall seeing them featured in car commercials. hope that makes sense.

Thats my point, the scissors are meaningless, they are used for a very short amount of time and do NOT summarise the films meaning, themes and story at all - it has been designed to see a grey horror film, which is very deceitful, just by using the most cliche horror elements.

Don't Look Now cover is not that extreme, I just feel its a little clique and unoriginal - the concept I like, the execution I do not like that, simple enough - I don't mind that you like it and I think it since people can appreciate the final result. I do love how different it is compared to other designs for this film, it just not my favourite.

And yes I have seen the film, and in my head I can come up with better concepts to reflect the film rather than a bloody coat on the cover lol... I don't hate the cover as I have said, I just feel it could be better... The more I look at it the more I appreciate it for what it is, It could look beautiful on a digipak, I really feel the paper stock could really emphasis the design, more so than a bit of cheap plastic lol.

I will admit it now, I SUCK at rationalising and critiquing online with just text - I am better vocally so I do struggle and trying to get my point across and explaining better lol... sorry, guess that shot u get when your a tard lol.

I was asking because I've found an inordinate amount of really good movies on Netflix that I'd never heard of before. I've found from experience that whatever algorithm they use to determine how they think I'm going to rate a film is scarily accurate. So if there's a film I'm completely unaware of that they think I'll rate between 3 and 5 stars, I'll give it a shot. I've rarely been disappointed.

Three good examples from the past few months are Alejandro Amenábar's Agora, Feng Xiaogang's Aftershock, and Klaus Härö's Mother of Mine.

Criterion-related: I just watched Secret Sunshine the other night, and thought it was excellent. It's now moved up the must-buy Criterion list.

Please suggest some, because I am desperate! I am getting pretty much no new films and I am getting some ridiculous suggestions! Driving me nuts! I have noticed a few new film popping up on the foreign section that I want to check out though.

This is a stupid question, I am sorta new with Netflix, do you need to rate in order to get the results, because I thought it was based on what you watched lol?

are you kidding? you give some of us fodder for conversation. we wouldn't be here if we didn't like talking movies, no? it is no fun when people always agree, ya know?!

do you have a Russian film called The Return on Netflix UK? If you do, I suggest you put the laptop away (that is, of course, unless you watch on your computer) and go enjoy yourself for 2 hours. I'd say that it is a film right up your alley. Not exactly depressing, but sad, dark, tragic... and beautifully done.

Ah sadly not - I can watch online, but those sites art the best quality or they take stupid amount of time to buffer even on fibre optic broadband lol :/

I'll have a little look anyway and see if I can find it

-

I dunno, I just worry cause people have always made comments about how much I post here and how annoying I can be - and I see it to, I am always here and commenting on everything... I am just passionate and care and like sharing lol but it makes me look needy and annoying :/

Plus because I can never really explain my thoughts better I come across like I don't know what I am talking about or contradict myself cause I get muddled and what I say can get misunderstood lol >.<

-

Might stick Secret Sunshine on tbh now its been brought up I'm in mood for it lol

I think your posting is fine and keeps the conversation going. I have never seen anyone have a problem with your posts. Plus, you should think, "screw these people, I am enjoying myself and being productive to the discussion, that's all that matters".

I would recommend using: http://instantwatcher.com/

IMO there are a lot of good films and television series to watch on Netflix but I do understand your dislike for their menu. Instant Watcher is another simple way to search for content that may appeal to you. I enjoy using it.

Hey, Polaroid, I for one thought your points about the graphics of those covers were quite thoughtful and well considered. I agree with you on many of them. Also, I liked your drunken Cries & Whispers cover and would take it in a heartbeat over the bizarro one Criterion came up with. I feel like their artists are either over- or under-thinking things lately, no idea which.

Sweet thanks, will check it out I've tried searching Netflix for some big directors I like and I'm shocked at how little there are tbh!

Lol Thanks for the nice comments, wasn't intending to 'fish for compliments' haha, but appreciate there are still nice people about haha.

And thanks about the comment to my posters, they are not perfect but it's always fun to have a little play and experiment lol.

I just worry so much how people see me, and I don't want to be hated or to annoy everyone lol, I just care so much about cinema and want to share it and hear other peoples stories

I find it fascinating how opinions can vary so much from film to film and how people take different things form each film. Its incredible that these films can cause so much conversation and discussion and mixed ideas.

Also having a little place with the poster idea:

I've hardly experienced or played with ideas and these were kinda rushed so obv they won't be that thought out or as developed, but its always fun to share half finished work and hear opinions! - I've found with design you can start with an idea and he end result can change so drastically lol - I don't take my poster designs seriously though, I don't think the are the best and I'm better at other design rather than film posters lol

I guess I'm showing more of a concept and idea rather than polished/final piece lol

Heres a great video on designing the Under The Skin poster

Janus Films recently found this film in their storage. Any idea what it is? I can't make out the writing.

I don't even know where I'm looking. The third line on the yellow label on the front (the first two are crossed out)? The LINDSEN looking word on the inside bill of lading or whatever that is? I'm sure they intentionally made it impossible to tell. Unless "Four Trailers on One Neg" means it's just four film trailers I really don't know my technical terms with film.
