I refuse to admit he exists. He died in 1971. Everything that has his name on it thereafter is a Hong Kong made film trying to cash in on his once proud name. |

Why does people say that? "once was"? How many Godard films have you watched made after 1980? Just seems like a fad thing to say. If anything, he has more fresh ideas now with his films than his New Wave period. People just hates that he uses video now. It's something different, not every film and director has to look the same.

Anyone know if B&N will offer the recently OOP titles during their sale next month? I plan to buy most of the ones on the most recent list but am debating if I should wait (as it would save me a good amount of money) or just order them through Criterion.

A Transformers film directed by Godard scares me far more than a Godard film directed by Michael Bay.

![]() Said it before and I'll say it again. Spielberg's early films were very good but have seriously diminished in quality in the decades since. |

CG, any idea what the deal is with Godard's latest project Socialisme? It really sounded intereting to me but I've heard next to nothing about it lately. Did it ever come out in European theatres? Could it possibly come out on Criterion eventually?

If I want to watch a film about anti-American, anti-consumerism, anti-anything Godard isn't into this month I'd bust out some of my vastly superior political science/philosophy texts, essays, and doctrines... He is a living legend but his best and most influential days ended decades ago. |

Like every Godard movie, some people loves it. Hates it. And doesn't understand it. Which means it has to be good either way. ![]() Volume11, I get what your saying, but I am not lonely on "modern Godard island". I do love his 60's films the most, but to dismiss everything after that is just the fad thing to do. Like I said before, I haven't watched everything post 1969, and I doubt anybody on here has either to give such a big opinion to say they suck. But there is alot of fans of modern Godard out there, and some will say Histoire(s) du cinéma was the best thing he has ever done. It's like a film history wrap-up in Godard's eyes. Not influential, I know, but important. Not everything has to be influential to have an affect on cinema. retablo, I do admire his early years as well (being that prob my 3 fav Godards being Le Petit Soldat, Masculin féminin, & Vivre sa vie). I and everyone else knows he is in fact into himself. But that doesn't mean others can't either. Yes he hasn't made a statement to cinema as huge since Weekend, but because that statement was about the Death of Cinema for crying out loud. How can it get any bigger than that? ![]() I'm just not one to dismiss films because it's the fad thing to do. I don't like everything he has done (New Wave or Modern) but I also love things he has done in both. Last edited by SpiderBaby; 06-29-2010 at 03:32 AM. |

and as far as user names go, mine stems from my real life nickname, captain narcolepsy (what a stretch, eh?). when i was in my late teens, i had some really bad bouts of narcolepsy, just falling asleep all of the time. its nowhere near as bad nowadays, although its adverse effects are chronic insomnia and non-restfull sleep, which if you see the times of day i post, that could make sense. anyways, while talking with an old roomate about whatever, i fell asleep mid-conversation. when i awoke, his first words were, "Top o' the morning to ya, captain narcolepsy!". nearly 12 years later, most people still only know me or refer to me as Captain.
i went ahead and googled it too. looks like they are all me and specifically every single link on the first page seems to be twitter related in some form. it's taken over, my friends. |
