I have a feeling we're going to see Mulholland Drive tomorrow... I predicted it last year saying we'll see this film in the April announcements. Crossing my fingers.
I bought Fitzcarraldo and Capricorn One from Movie Stop on my way home from work this evening.
I've never seen Les Blank's Burden of Dreams, which is is about the production of Fitzcarraldo, but I've always heard that it's almost as captivating as the actual Herzog film. Given the release of the recent Les Blank anthology from Criterion, I'm curious to see if they'll ever upgrade the Criterion DVD of Burden of Dreams. It's one of those flicks that I'd like to see once before deciding to pull the trigger, but it would be cool to see an upgrade available.
Wow....why didn't I put that together? Les Blank Burden of Dreams/Les Blank Always for Pleasure. On that one, I totally drew a....er, nevermind.
Fitzcarraldo is one of my top Herzogs, and what Blank does with Burden of Dreams is phenomenal. He finds unexpected parallels between Herzog and Fitzcarraldo, and it's particularly surprising that he'd find them on set in the Amazon while Fitzcarraldo was still in the process of being created. I think you're going to like Burden of Dreams.
And the Les Blank set just went up my viewing cue. Thanks.

Wow, that's a very impressive summary that surely represents hours of effort on your part. Thank you so much for providing it!
I know we batted around the possibility of Night and the City and/or Thieves Highway receiving a blu-ray upgrade. Was that just wishful thinking?
Again, by someone posting here and not naming the studio. Who has it?
The person who said it is the guy behind Scorpion Releasing (I think Walter is his name). He didn't name the studio. I figured that it was likely Kino, but apparently it's not (I'd have to dig through the Kino Lorber Studio Classics thread, but I think Rob S., the Kino rep who posts there, said they don't have it). Maybe it's Olive.
Anyway I assume that Walter(?) didn't mention which label had it because he didn't want to jump the gun on their official announcement. Maybe the "i"s haven't been crossed and the "t"s haven't been dotted yet.

Huh? The Rose, Red Sun, The Emigrants and The New Land were "confirmed"? When? They're just wishful thinking. Labeling them as "confirmed" based solely on a ambiguous newsletter clues is a stretch.

OK, 'Unless things have changed...' I'd love to know how old that info was. I too saw Rob S sating Kino didn't have it.
Regardless, it means Scottie has the least credible guess on the list and is ignoring the others.

The Rose isn't confirmed, just quite likely. Red Sun same.
The Emigrants and The New Land were both confirmed at Wexner Foundation conferences though.
The Universal release isn't bad but there's plenty of room for improvement. And really, it's such a great movie even a modest improvement would be worth the twenty or so bucks.
