Have to admit, the After Hours "title clock-hands" theory was a stretch (I'd have expected a plaster statue, if they were serious about it), but it's uncanny.

I would like to hear something on Leslie Howard's 'Pygmalion' and Carne's 'Port of Shadows'. They're still selling the Essential Art House DVD release of 'Pygmalion', so I assume that means Criterion still holds the rights? Anybody have any insight on how that works?

Also, it looks like StudioCanal released a region B blu-ray of 'Port of Shadows'. Somebody in the thread mentioned earlier that StudioCanal and Criterion have a good relationship, so I hope that means Criterion will be allowed to release a region A blu-ray of it. I'm not going to spend $40 on an out of print DVD to see it.

I just ordered these from the UK, so expect at least one of them to be announced:

Two for the Road
Thief of Bagdad (1940)
Young and Innocent
The Grand Budapest Hotel

(And not Criterion likely releases: Taking of Pelham One Two Three and The Long Goodbye)

I would absolutely love it if Gance's Napoleon was released this year.

I'm guessing that was the (Napoleonic-looking) army from the New Year's hint.
At this point, it's so predestined, it can't not happen.

I'm not ignoring the others. In fact, I had things added to my list before the other films were speculated, so my apologies.

I would like to see it be After Hours or The Big Clock, but I find everything those to be too ambiguous. Hell, couldn't Harold Lloyd hanging in his Safety Last! pose also be interpreted as both Safety Last! and The Big Clock, too?

I'll add the others.

All I want is what I've wanted forever:

Mulholland Dr.

But I have absolutely given up on ever seeing it happen.

I am hoping that the army on the cartoon was a reference to a film that Criterion already released on DVD - Andrzej Wajda's masterpiece Danton, a better film than Napoleon IMO. Although the style of the army on the cartoon does have more of a Napoleon era look than that of the French Revolution, a decade-two earlier where Danton takes place.

I dunno. 4 movies that are already available on blu in the US and a 5th that has a super inexpensive region free blu available doesn't seem like a very exciting month to me.

If Hiroshima mon amour were announced, I'd be incredibly happy. The Oscars announcements have already ruined my day, so hopefully something can pick it up.

Of course, that something would be Mulholland Dr., but I've given up on hoping for that. Why hope for things that aren't going to happen?

At least Nightcrawler was nominated for the screenplay. I thought that beyond how surprisingly great the film was, the most interesting thing about it was that this was a first time director who wrote his own original script to boot. I hope this wasn't some one off thing and he continues to make thought provoking films like this one.

Regarding Chastain, are you referring to A Most Violent YEar? I forget if she was in something else perhaps I am spacing out. I thought that A Most Violent Year was very good. Not remarkable but it was better than most of the films nominated EDIT: I forgot she was in Interstellar, didn't like much about that film

Maybe it's Olive.

Anyway I assume that Walter(?) didn't mention which label had it because he didn't want to jump the gun on their official announcement. Maybe the "i"s haven't been crossed and the "t"s haven't been dotted yet.
Walter shot it down but maybe he cannot name the studio for legal reasons ..you know how making announcements before initial announcements go, just check out Badadook that apparently is with Shout / Scream Factory
Guesses for today lol - honestly NO IDEA For me its impossible because its not a niche label where you would expect an 80s slasher..

Ill just go ahead and hope for
Mulholland Drive
The Big Clock
an upgrade for Le Samourai, Kwaidan or one of their horror titles
Maybe Odd Man Out gets announced and will give me a chance to revisit it to see if I want it.
