The Lego Movie's absence was a bit of a shock but I'll take anything that boosts The Tale of the Princess Kaguya's chances of winning Kaguya is right up there with Boyhood as the best film of the year (though its technically a 2013 film) and best film of the decade so far for me. I'd go as far as to say that its my favourite animated film since Ghibli's very own Spirited Away. I've got my fingers crossed that it will join that film as an Oscar-winner, though I'm guessing that How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Big Hero 6 are the undeserved favourites.

I hope it wins, but still, The Lego Movie was one of my favourite animated films this year, it was on par with HTTYD2. Everything is far from awesome that it did not get a nomination. I haven't seen The Boxtrolls yet, but it's on my list, and I do want to see Song of the Sea as well. Big Hero 6 interests me, but I would have rather seen The Lego Movie in there.

Speaking of nominations, what does everyone think of the Best Picture noms? Like I said, I've very surprised by the attention The Grand Budapest Hotel is getting. I own it, and think that if Ralph Fiennes hadn't been in it, it would not have been as memorable. I'm disappointed he wasn't nominated for his role in it.

Agreed!!! I never got around to buying the DVD when it was first released, and held off purchasing it after Criterion confirmed/hinted back in 2013(?) that an upgrade to Blu was coming.

Didn't know Criterion had BT on DVD, beautiful Digipak, bet they lose that when/if they upgrade it, like The Double Life..

HTTYD2 was actually really good, though I think they're compensating for the fact the first one, which was slightly better, had to go up against Toy Story 3.

It's my second favorite film of the year right behind Boyhood. Emmanuel Lubezki is a great cinematographer.
Both are on my list due to the hype, but Birdman is coming first because of the Cumberbatch/Keaton smackdown for Best Actor. I need to watch it to see if I'm going to change allegiance from Benedict.

I've heard. I loved Harvey Birdman, and heard a lot of great comparisons to it, plus there's the whole semi-parallel between fictional Keaton and real life Keaton, who, as you know, many moons ago, played Batman in two films.

I need a replacement disc for Carlos because I received the faulty sound version from B&N, but Mulvaney isn't responding to my e-mails for some reason (wonderful considering the obscene amount I spend on Criterions), what do you all recommend I do? Thanks.

Believe me, I've contemplated it, but I fear it will put a financial burden on me.

Luckily most of the films I want have been released. Sadly, we're still waiting on things that were rumored, hinted, and confirmed several years earlier.

I own 2 blu ray players, one is Region Free. It will put you on a financial burden. You will have plenty of movies, but nothing to eat while watching them outside of Ramen noodles and 99 cent stuff
