I guess it could have been worse I stand corrected. Honestly though, great film but this makes 3 times they delivered some awkward artwork for it
I find it strange how the concept behind the 'Persona' cover was not to over complicate the design and just let the tim speak for itself, why not do so with this film, it has many beautiful shots that was sum up the films image and themes...

I just don't get why they didn't use the same concept behind 'Persona' which is stunning.

Well I certainly "get it" in that my opinion may be different from theirs or others, but I agree in that I really don't see the resemblance in the film to the art.

I think a painting style would have been nice, similar to Autumn Sonata but with heavy red rather than the browns/oranges/yellows.

Oh well...

It's not easy to create a beautiful cover, they can't get it right every time. My favorites are when they use an iconic shot from the movie, like Sword of Doom, but not every film has moments like that. Bergman movies in particular could be difficult to sell from a visual striking image.

As I said in previous post, they could have had a beautiful painting done, similar to Eraserhead, Autumn Sonata, A Night to Remember etc

I mean I did this in a few minutes after a lot of alcohol, I know it aint perfect but yeah was just an idea lol.

[Show spoiler]

They have just done such a great job with Bergman films designs:

Autumn Sonata, Persona, Fanny & Alexander etc etc lol

Also I know the design doesn't affect the film and that is the most important part, but when you get great packaging and stuff it really helps put you in the mood and its really nice having a visual representation of the film on the packaging lol

I think the revised cover for Cries and Whispers is definitely an improvement. It's still not amazing, but it's certainly better.

Tired of churning out lightweight comedies, Hollywood director John L. Sullivan (Joel McCrea) decides to make O Brother, Where Art Thou?—a serious, socially responsible film about human suffering. After his producers point out that he knows nothing of hardship, Sullivan hits the road disguised as a hobo. En route to enlightenment, he meets a lovely but no-nonsense young woman (Veronica Lake)—and more trouble than he ever dreamed of. This comic masterpiece by Preston Sturges is among the finest Hollywood satires and a high-water mark in the career of one of the industry’s most revered funnymen.

Jean-Pierre Melville began his superb filmmaking career with this powerful adaptation of an influential underground novel written during the Nazi occupation of France. An idealistic, naive German officer is assigned to the home of a middle-aged man and his grown niece; their response to his presence—their only form of resistance—is complete silence. Constructed with elegant minimalism and shot, by the legendary Henri Decaë, with hushed eloquence, Le silence de la mer is a fascinating tale of moral ambiguity that points the way toward Melville’s later films about resistance and the occupation (Léon Morin, Priest; Army of Shadows) yet remains a singularly eerie masterwork in its own right.

Love Sullivan's Travels A masterpiece, but I already have the UK Region B Arrow Academy edition. Eureka MoC released Le Silence De La Mer a few years ago, and I didn't like it that much.
