Watch: Hitchcock's Thwarted Holocaust Documentary Comes to HBO

This sounds like Night and Fog.

On a related note, this might be the only time Brett Ratner's name appears near Hitchcock.

Criterion related, but not Blu-ray. I picked up a few older CC DVDs and the disc holders are broken on them. Normally, not a problem, but I can no longer find the large 2 disc DVD cases. Ive googled multi disc dvd case and come up empty on the thick cases. Anyone know where to get them? I don't want to trim art to fit.

Those DVD cases are 22 mm thick. I don't know if you can buy replacement cases like that through Criterion anymore, but you can buy empty cases in that size at Amazon in either clear or black plastic. They actually hold six discs, but your artwork should fit.

Your other alternative would be to go to a thrift store or used media store and see if they have any cheap used DVDs or other media for sale in nice 22 mm cases that you could switch out when you got them home ...

Hope that helps!

Thanks jmclick

Cc doesn't have them listed but I emailed anyway to see. I'll check Amazon and through old PC games.

Couldn't pass up 5$ criterion son DVD so like all good deals, I'll spend more recasing the goods

La Ciénaga Blu-ray REVIEW

Massive upgrade over the HVE R1 disc It is really fantastic that Criterion chose to upgrade this disc.

By the way, Martel's The Holy Girl is not out on Blu-ray yet, but the HBO disc/DVD is actually really good. You should consider picking it up and seeing the film. It is excellent. I have the first release, which is quite old, but I am fairly certain that the reissue is basically the same.

I'd love a release of Winsor McCay films.

What I really want is a CC release of Lost In Translation. It's one hell of a movie, but from all the reviews I've read the BD release is so-so. It deserves better. And Criterion could definitely deliver.

I don't expect this, however.

As I wrote in the dedicated La Cienaga thread : It could be because I'm looking at it from my office desk (and the monitor is not especially good, plus all the firewalls stuff) but how come the screenshots look so heavily compressed ? Almost every single one of them shows strong pixellisation. I see this for instance of the left part of the 2nd cap, on the pool water on 3rd cap and on the blanket on 4th cap.

I'd prefer The Virgin Suicides :P, although I do want both!

Wow, I didn't know Hitchcock was involved with this! Looks like HBO pieced some footage and interviews both present and from the 40's together for this. Will be watching on VOD next week.

Me, too. I know I'm in the minority but that is my favorite Sofia film and one of my all-time favorites. I've seen it a dozen times by now but I'd love an R1 blu ray, especially by Criterion. Everything from the acting to the cinematography to the production design is top-notch and should've been showered with Oscars. I wonder if there's really a chance CC will release it?

Thanks for the reminder re: Marie Antoinette - really enjoyed this film; before watching it, I thought the '80's music in a film that took place hundreds of years ago would be off-putting - however, it really worked well for the film & enhanced my enjoyment to a huge extent; I'm an '80's kid anyway, and really liked pop/rock music from that decade. And, yes, I would definitley say it's Criterion-worthy...

Also liked Lost in Translation & The Virgin S., but didn't like either of those films nearly as much as MA....

I haven't seen Marie Antoinette since it hit theatres years ago (I recall really enjoying it). Wasn't the blu-ray announced at one time but never actually released?

I need to re watch Marie Antoinette, I saw once on one of this uncalibrated hi fps TV's which really ruined the film for me and absolutely hated it.

I know when on a decent TV it will be much better, might have to order it tbh

There seemed to be cover art made for the film back in the early BLU days. Not sure if blus were ever pressed I doubt it though. At this point I would settle for a Sony- Mill Creek Blu release. I refuse to watch this movie yet again on DVD.

Blu-ray.com has pictures of a front and back of a blu release, but it doesn't appear it was ever released.

Slow weekday… Here’s something that would be fun to answer. Fill in the blanks:

My absolute favorite Criterion blu-ray is ………. and I’ve watched it approximately ….. times.

I’m definitely curious to see everyone’s responses.

Can we choose more than one lol? Actually my list would turn into 50+ haha.

Its hard, one of my favourite film is Antichrist, but Hausu is just mind blowing... then we have films like The Double Life of Veronique, The Thin Red Line, Picnic At Hanging Rock...

Oh yeah and Breaking The Waves, Qatsi Trilogy, Trilogy of Life, Salo...

Ahhh this isn't fair.

I will choose Antichrist, because I relate so well with it and its full of emotion. I have seen this hundred of times, I have lost count - but I am at stage where I nearly know the script off by heart haha. I do obsessively watch films so most my collection ha been watched 100+ times lol, who needs sleep?

If Criterion EVER got the 6 hour + cut of The Tree of Life, then that would be my choice haha!
