I've got to go with Meddle as my favorite Pink Floyd album. It's the closest to perfect that a Pink Floyd album can get to my ears. "Echoes" amazes me every time.

I'm also a fan of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, and Atom Heart Mother.

I love The Dark Side of the Moon, except that I've never been a big fan of "Money." For some reason, that song always stops the album dead in its tracks for me.

Animals is such an underrated album. It's probably my favorite of the post-Meddle albums.

I'll admit, though, that I have a special love for A Momentary Lapse of Reason, simply because that album hit during my high school years. When I saw Pink Floyd two nights in a row in 1994 (sans Roger Waters, of course), the songs from that album were a highlight.

The Wall was my introduction to Pink Floyd, but it's also an album so rooted in my teenage years that I have not paid it a lot of mind since. I guess that The Wall just works best during one's teenage years.

Long time no see.

I have not seen plastic case editions for any of the others, but it's probably just a matter of time. I wish that replacement cases were available for Tess or Foreign Correspondent to purchase separately from the discs themselves.

'Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2' is a great anthem for teenage angst, but I think the "disco" guitar and drums that Dave and Nick play on it ruins it for me nowadays.

Email Claire and ask to buy a replacement case and request the plastic case, will cost ya $5, well $10 if you buy the case + artwork :P.

They offer replacement cases for everything on their site, they just don't list it :P.

I have a ton of new Critwrion titles so I'm sure I'll be posting more often.

Costco has Tess on sale for $19.99, not bad if you sell your digipack, at least that's what I'll do.

What section do they have the booklets in? I passed on a copy of 'Anatomy of a Murder' for $15 at Half-Price Books because it was missing the booklet.

So Criterion and non-Criterion related here... I watched Nosferatu this morning on my "newly made region 2" blu-ray player. It looked amazing, really excited about being able to watch more films I don't have access to here in the US. Going to try and watch Birth of a Nation later tonight.

At the moment I've put in The Night Porter, which I hope is as good as the good things I have heard about the film. It's starting out a little odd and I hope it's not like Salo, which I still have not been able to finish. But I'll be sure to post after and share my thoughts.

I really love Wish You Were Here and The Final Cut. Both are quite amazing albums, very emotional, and raw at points. They are desert island staples.

I was hoping someone would bring up 'The Final Cut'. That was the first Floyd album I ever bought because it was the only one that Best Buy had in stock that I hadn't heard anything off of at the time, and I loved it. It's such a bleak album. I really like Waters' 'Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking', too.

Polaroid,

If you're out there listening, can you make a mockup of a Solaris 2002 Criterion artwork cover for me? He he.

One of my best friends turned me on to that album specifically, though I had listened to other Floyd albums. The album is quite amazing, and you are right, very bleak. And after learning it's
[Show spoiler]all about his father and how he thought he betrayed the family
, the album took on such a heavier meaning... it's simply a masterpiece in my opinion.

Well I just finished The Night Porter and it wasn't quite what I expected. I guess I had expected it to be much more explicit than it was. Don't get me wrong, it was explicit, and quite raw, but not quite what I had expected from reviews and other pieces I had read on the film... though it's not hard to understand the controversy stemming from the subject matter.

The film was quite good in my opinion. The way it tackles the psychology of what happened in WWII between captor and captive is quite intriguing. The bond between Max and Lucia is disturbing, but yet it makes sense on some level. It's an odd love, formed out of something terrible.

Turning to the technical, the film looks incredible. A few pieces of grit and lint, but overall it looks and sounds great. I really enjoyed the film and see it as one I will watch again. Now on to watch the MoC Birth of a Nation disc.

Tonight I watched Harold and Maude, which I purchased on eBay last weekend at a really great price. I had seen the film twice on the big screen in revival, and once on pay TV during the last couple of decades; but the Criterion disc was so wonderfully sharp, I felt like I was seeing the film for the first time. So many small details that I had never noticed before popped out at me, and made the viewing experience incredibly rich.

To be honest, I only bought the blu-ray because it was such a good deal. I figured I probably would watch it once and then shelve it. Now, I know I'll be revisiting it again. I'm very glad Criterion worked their magic on it!

FWIW, Harold and Maude was the first Criterion bluray I ever purchased ... the film that really seriously opened the door to the "Criterion world" for me.

(Maybe that last part isn't entirely true as before I got into bluray, I had purchased Criterion DVDs of Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Black Orpheus, The Third Man and Equinox).

I really need to pick this film up. I keep debating getting it during the sales, but always put it back down or delete it from my cart. Guess I need to rethink it now.
