I have just got off a 12 hour shift, so will revisit at a later date and put more into it bit tired haha also sorry for the big images, no idea how to make them appear smaller on this site!

(also the image of the women is low res as I couldn't get any hi res images at the moment!)

Polaris's very first mock up cover for Solaris would be my choice. Such a good film. With all the crap that gets remastered for Bluray and this sci-fi gem has been totally ignored. I just don't get it!

I know! So many fine films that have yet to see the light of the blu-ray laser beam! When will our dreams come true? At least for now, we can stare at these beautiful artwork covers Polaroid made and imagine these are really true. Hard to believe that a huge actor like George Clooney is ignored in Solaris. Personally I think this is one of the most beautiful and sensual science fiction films ever made. Now that's a big statement and I'm sticking to that.

I viewed Radio Days and Black Narcissus this past weekend. The former is Woody's "I remember", a gem. The part with the pitcher is hilarious.

Black Narcissus is one of the best films I've ever seen. I can't get over how great the set design and art direction is, among other things. Deborah Kerr ain't bad either.

I'll echo the praise for Wise Blood. It's one of my favourite Huston's, which is no mean feat given that career.

I'll join in here, this is one of my favourite films. It might not be for everyone, but I rate it higher than the other 3 selected. In fact, a lot higher! Definitely check it out however you can. Not going to say more because I think it's better to go into this one without any notions beforehand

Back to the Solaris remake, I;ve borrowed a DVD from the library was surpsied they had it. I'm going to check it out this week and I'll either come back here with a changed perspective or equipped with a bucket of tomatoes

haven’t had much time recently to post thoughts on some recent CC titles that I have seen… here goes…

Night and the City: it’s pulpy, it’s “late night” movie-ish… both qualities one would expect from a film-noir. This one, however, also felt cheap and compared to Dassin’s Rififi, this film has the quality of a B-side track. Gene Tierney is wasted in a role that just requires her to be a stereotypical film-noir “dame.” Richard Widmark’s Fabian really needs to be punched in the face,

[Show spoiler]so those of you who have seen it can understand why I enjoyed the end when he gets dumped in the river.

I’ve only seen Widmark a few times. I think I prefer him more as a good guy. N&TC isn’t terrible, but it isn’t as good as Kazan’s Panic in the Streets (another noir in which Widmark stars,) either.

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie: probably my least favorite Bunuel to date. The surrealism in Tristana, Belle de Jour, and That Obscure Object of Desire is at the service of the plot. Here, it is scene after scene that don’t really add up to create even the illusion of cohesiveness. It is the type of film that will probably benefit from multiple viewings, so there’s no chance that I’m willing to dismiss it just yet. Some scenes were entertaining; watching Bunuel, for me, is a bit like watching Godard – you really don’t know what is going to happen next. He kept things interesting in that regard.

I purchased The Palm Beach Story today at Movie Stop. It'll be a little while before I have a chance to watch it, but I'm excited.

I like the other Sturges films that I've seen, so I've got a good feeling about this one. There's no telling how I'll feel until I get a chance to watch it over the weekend, though. Sometimes these films push the right buttons, and sometimes they don't.

I would recommend another go at this one, for me it was one of those that start to grow on me with time, the main thing that make it work for me is that even if the narrative feels too disconnected, the individual scenes are all great, the one that left me feeling like you (at least after only one viewing) was The Phantom of Liberty, would like to hear some thoughts on that one.

I think you'll like it. Joel McCrea was such a versatile actor. Another comedy of his I'd enjoy seeing in the Collection is The More the Merrier or dramas like Dead End and These Three. Great stuff.

What did you think of Kathleen Byron's performance as Sister Ruth in Black Narcissus? I thought she was absolutely electrifying. And I absolutely love Jack Cardiff's cinematography ... his use of Technicolor in that film was masterful.
