Just finished "Everlasting Moments", and loved it. I'm a huge Bergman fan and Troell is often compared to him, but this film is just beautiful. Some of the most gorgeous cinematography I've seen in a recent film, I was relatively shocked to learn it was a 16mm source.

It's a fantastic film, indeed, retablo! I'm sure everyone that gives this film a chance will find something to love about it.

Ordered my last 7 replacement cases from Criterion last Saturday night...they arrived on my doorstep this morning! What a surprise on a Saturday!

So what's the general consensus on RAN? Am I better off getting the extras packed Criterion DVD, or the mediocre SC BD with better picture quality and sound?

If you want to get Criterions with the sale, you have to go to an actual store. In-store, the 50% discount is taken off of any blu-ray. On their website, it's a small, select list.

Well, since the Criterion DVD has been OOP for over a year, you'll probably have to settle for the Studio Canal blu-ray. Unless you're willing to pay a lot for the DVD from an online seller.

I don't have a Borders anywhere near me. And even my local mall did have one I'm not going there this weekend since the 500 is going on and the traffic is insane. Guess I'll just wait for some other sale.

Yeah, it's not an entirely ideal situation. I understand their reasoning, though. People are going to be more willing to impulse buy if they go to a store and see the titles sitting in front of them.

I was really blown away by the cinematography... I have worked in 16mm before and know the resolution is still greater than blu-ray, but I guess I'm used to other 16mm transfers not looking as sharp and detailed... or people on the forums saying "oh it was shot in 16mm, it'll never look that great" like they are some kind of authority... and wrong, lol. Truly amazing.

Well the reason I ask is because a local store has a new copy of the Criterion DVD for about 22 bucks. Is it worth it over the BD?

For 22 bucks, why hesitate? It's not one of the best DVDs ever in terms of PQ, but it's certainly a decent enough package. If you don't like it, you can always sell it, most likely make some money on it, since it is out of print and a bit hard to come by.

I've not watched the blu-ray yet, but depending on who you believe, opionions range from it's not much better than the DVD to it's not much worse than the film that is/was recently making the rounds in actual theaters.

Got back from Borders. Very poor sale limited by thin selection.

Will wait for Amazon sale in a few weeks.

Back from Borders as well. They had most the Criterions. Picked up Days of Heaven and Revanche. Nice deal.

Besides, I really don’t see why enjoying movie art can be considered creepy – don’t you have any posters in your theatre?

In any case, none of that was the point of my taking offense. If he had limited his comments at a simile of Comic Book Guy, it would have been a moment; but to continue by generalizing SteelBook collectors (and fellow members of this site) as opportunistic, petty, and amoral, is stepping over the friendly banter line into crass territory.

In fact, some of the most generous people I have met here are SteelBook collectors. I guess I just felt the need to stop this snowball as it was rolling down hill, gather speed and girth, and becoming generally mean spirited.

I didn't call out your national origin, faith, heritage, family, or anything else that could TRULY be deemed as offensive so to interpret what I said as a "Go" moment is a bit much.

I know the blood oath the steelBook mafia made you take when you became a member demands that you protect the brotherhood but could you possibly be more over dramatic?

I even offered you a rose...consider that peace offering declined.

Now you get a banana playfully mocking you grinding away on a violin.

The steelbook mafia's influence has rooted itself deep within the blu-ray.com conscience.

Make no mistake...they are watching...we are marked...no one is safe...not even mods...

I do like steelbooks and have quite a few. Though I'm nowhere near as crazy about it as many are around these forums. I only buy steelbooks if I want the film, never keep mine sealed and never pay more than $30-35 for one. Some of the photos people post with literally dozens of the same steelbook all sealed just make me scratch my head.

I came very close to purchasing the David Attenborough version of Life for $35.00. I decided to hold off and save the money for the B& N Criterion sale in a week or so.

My local Borders only had the same copy of Bottle Rocket that's been there for quite a while...I'd like to eventually pick it up, but it's not at the top of my list.
