How well does the Criterion site package the BDs for shipment? Same as Amazon, or better? Worse?

All my orders from Criterion have come in a sturdy box, with air pillows. Even one time when I ordered only two blu-rays (my smallest order from them).

Amazon almost always uses the yellow padded envelopes for two. But, I have yet to have any damage (knock on wood).

I didn't care for Satyricon either. I just didn't think it was a very good film compared to other efforts from Fellini. Granted, I still have plenty more to explore from his filmography though. La Strada is still my favorite from the ones I have seen.

I was all for going for the Moc Satyricon because of its great cover but it looks like the Criterion has an unbeatable package of extras. Actually not sure yet what MoC will be including.

I checked out the screenshots on dvdbeaver for Watership down and I'm really impressed. I owned the UK blu-ray (which only comes with lossy audio) and I didn't think it looked very good. Unless the screenshots have me fooled or it looks worse in motion, it appears that Criterion have done a better transfer and I look forward to watching it.

In the press release for the MoC Satyricon, sent last week, they hint at -

•"Copius documentary, behind-the-scenes, and interview material, to be announced soon"

I always go for the MoC in a case like this (Nashville being the last time it happened), solely due to the price difference.

I actually went on eBay to order the cheap UK edition, which retails for around Ł10, but temptation proved too much when I crossed paths with the Criterion. The seller had reduced it from Ł90 to Ł60 for a quick sale, but was taking offers too, which got it down to Ł55. Criterion discs in the UK sell for around Ł23, so this was a little over the price of two discs, which I'm happy with.

I've got the UK Third Man, which is very nice, though I also have the second Criterion release of the film on DVD too.

[Show spoiler]since they both could be described as coming-of-old age films reflecting past rose-colored memories vs modern disappointment with a city they love.
I wish now I had recorded it so I could watch them back to back.
Thats funny. I think most likely when The Great Beauty is described as "fellini-esque" they are not talking about Roma

That's usually the case for me as well, and I'm swayed one way or the other by the prices and the transfers.

I decided to make the plunge and blind-buy My Winnipeg, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed it. Already watched it twice within the span of 4 days, and I'm working my way through the extensive interview on the supplements.

It was my first Maddin film, but I love the approach he takes. The way he engages and explores myth making, his sense of humor, the occasional bits of truth amid the fiction and memories. Here's hoping his new film, Forbidden Room, gets some kind of release soon.

Sine you mention you added them, is there a place we can send requests to add movies? Just curious. Thanks Pro-B!
Hi lordmorpheus72

You can actually follow the instructions in this post from the DVD section and add any DVD title you want to the database:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...61&postcount=1

But if some reason you can't do it alone, please send me a PM and I will be happy to help you. (I usually check PMs at the end of the day).

Here's Jaded (see below). However, I don't have this release in my library, so could you check the specs and make sure that they are correct?

I hope you are well

Pro-B

p.s.
Our review of The Soft Skin will be up today.

from Variety (emphasis mine):

Quote:
Restored, color versions of “Daughters, Wives and a Mother,” and “Scattered Clouds” are set to be the highlight of a film season at next month’s Hong Kong International Film Festival which will celebrate the life and work of the late great Japanese film maker Mikio Naruse.
from HKIFF Facebook:

Quote:
in a newly digitized version. Wives and a Mother, and Scattered Clouds will be shown in widescreen and color.
There will be 10 other Naruse titles shown at HKIFF including When A Woman Ascends the Stairs (CC). Hopefully, we'll get to see these in HD from our favorite label.

I'll get to see what the fuss is about the Pierrot le Fou CC release, as I've got a copy heading my way... I thought the PQ on the Studio Canal was just 'ok.'
same thing for Last Year at Marienbad via Studio Canal... was mildly disappointed with it. and I didn't check, but I think they use the same music for their title menus for both films... that's just weak

it is EXTREMELY difficult to get the darn disc out of the plastic holder, too, for the SC releases. I used to be on a soapbox saying, "why bother w/ CC when SC has region free releases?!" well, they kinda suck, IMO. certain parts of LYAM aren't even subtitled. I saw LYAM for the first time on the CC DVD so I know that they were there in the CC release.

bring on Pierrot! err... uh, Ferdinand.

This is all excellent news. I recently increased my Naruse collection by acquiring the out of print MOC dvd set, as well as some HK dvds. Would be terrific to see some Naruse on blu.

have no idea if that is a joke...
if so, my response:

rimshot, please.

or maybe mild sarcasm? not sure...
if so, my response:

not sure where you goin here, but you've lost me on a few posts recently, so par for the course.

or maybe a reference to the vagueness to LYAM...
if so, my response:

ahh... yeah. deep. I like where you're going with this.
