Oh sod off BBC! To say knight of Cups is worst than 50 shades of grey and Jupiters ascending is nuts On the other side of the spectrum, LA Times loved it... http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...ry.html#page=1 Last edited by Ausjdm; 02-13-2015 at 12:40 AM. Reason: Article added |

The trailer for Knight of Cups is almost as good as the one for Tree of Life. Initial reactions for a new Malick do little for me. Just want that release date already.

Don't know if this has been already mentioned, but...
Was trying out the search feature on Amazon Fire iPhone app, and tried a search for "bunuel". It did find the Hulu Criterion titles (Exterminating Angel, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Simon of the Desert), and it also found Tristana and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie. I thought those would be Amazon rentals, but nope, they're on Hulu. But they're still listed on Criterion's site as being out of print, and no indication of being on Hulu. Went to Hulu's site, did a search and there they were. Not sure what's up, but maybe some discs are coming soon... ![]() |

Even more interesting were the theories that various writers had applied to the films, individually and as a trio. Apparently, individual people would answer your questions about Seconds differently: [Show spoiler] Now I'm going to have to watch the film again, and form my own opinion. |

A friend of mine saw Jupiter Ascending and said it was so bad that he nearly walked out of the theater with his friend. I'm definitely going to stay far away from seeing this film in public...maybe I'll, ya know, "rent the DVD".

Sure, one could make a case that The Manchurian Candidate was born of Cold War paranoia and that Seven Days in May was born of paranoia about Cold War paranoia but given the times some degree of anxiety (both about the Soviets themselves and our reactions and overreactions to them) wasn't entirely unreasonable. I mean, I wouldn't say Dr. Strangelove or Fail-Safe were paranoid. But change 'paranoia trilogy' to 'anxiety trilogy' and Seconds fits a lot better. From The Invasion of the Body Snatchers to C.C. Baxter's existence as a faceless cog in an insurance company anxiety over loss of identity and individuality was a pretty fruitful theme in the fifties and sixties. |

Slightly disappointed to see that two of the Beach Party movies, Muscle Beach Party and the masterpiece of the saga Beach Blanket Bingo coming to Blu-ray... my wildest dream was that Criterion would release a box set of them. They're certainly an "important" moment of American 1960s culture, along with other surf fare like Gidget and Where the Boys Are.

One reviewer was criticising the film, because they felt the strippers shoes were wrong in the film XD

The buzz in my social circle is much stronger, with nigh on all of my pals that caught it at the weekend falling hard for it. I was in the minority in my love for To The Wonder amongst this lot too, which is a good sign as they could have gone either way. I can't wait.
