My local picturehouse showed that last weekend (sadly I missed it) and they usually only screen oldies if there's been a new resto, so you never know!

Which means that Criterion would only be able to pick up BD rights after Twilight Time's rights expire. I doubt that Criterion would license it only for Blu-ray. Assuming that Kino is happy with the DVD sales, I wouldn't be surprised if they picked up the BD rights when TT's license expires. Kino's actually picked up a few titles for DVD that TT has released on BD.
Interesting... Depending on the Kino release I might get the DVD just to have it, and then upgrade later. And while I'd lvoe a Criterion release, any blu-ray release would make me happy, as long as the quality is good.

I just watched Bottle Rocket for the first time a month or so ago. For a first film, I thought it was good, but it wasn't my favorite. It was a present, so that was nice, but not sure I'll revisit it anytime soon.

As for The Royal Tenenbaums, I think I've said this before here, but I just didn't get it, or like it my first viewing. I watched again recently and quite enjoyed it. Maybe it was age, maybe it was the mood. Either way, I did pick that up during the 50% BN sale.

Just a small mistake: "Un tornage a la campagne" is incorrectly written, it should be written "Un tournage à la campagne".

As beautiful as Ms. Goddard was, I thought she was the one thing that detracted from Modern Times. I thought Chaplin's fixation on the "gamine" character was not only not funny, but bordered somewhere between maudlin and creepy. To put it in the vernacular, I felt like he was directing with his dick.

this got buried in all of the Wes Anderson love.. either that or no one cares (probably the latter.) anyway, I thought it was pretty cool to catch this song in a new commercial and it persuaded me to revisit Jules and Jim which was at the top of me Criterion "rewatch" list, anyway.

this time around, I adored this film! not just the song that Moreau sings, but the score itself is wonderful. I didn't downright despise the movie the first time around, but this is the closest to a complete 180 I've had for a Criterion film thus far - innovative, superbly acted, beautifully scored.. what's not to like?

Does anyone know anything about Gates of Heaven/Vernon FL? These sound very interesting but I have to be careful with documentaries bc hand held cameras really mess with my head. Headaches nausea the whole nine yards. I can take it in small sections but not the whole time.

I know we *just* talked about Criterion releasing more non Japanese Asian films, but I'm hoping for some Naruse today, even if just another Eclipse set. The man has 68 complete existing films out there and only 6 have been released on physical media in the states.

Gates of Heaven is an odd, yet endearing film about the proprietors of a pet cemetery. Errol Morris once stated that the best way to interview people is to not interject - to let his subjects make connections in their heads and take the conversation wherever they so desire. this makes for some quite interesting characters and philosophies. throw in death as the subject matter and it is one unique film. for a while, Ebert voted for it in the Sight and Sound top 10 greatest films poll that the critics fill out every 10 years. as for shaky camera, I do not recall any, actually... the film is from the late 70's, btw.

Id get Onibaba if that was coming, or Kwaidan ..and being a fan of Kaiju films I wish they could license some of those OOP Media Blasters films like Yog, Monster from Space, Matango or the Mysterians etc

I think this may be the month for Passion of Joan of Arc, but that with Two Days One Night and New World may be too many high profile releases for 1 month.

I keep forgetting about The Passion of Joan of Arc, this would be a great release. I almost ordered the MoC release a few months ago. Holding off just in case.

Here's a question:

Do you order from criterion.com as a rule, even though it usually costs a few dollars more than amazon, so as to support them just that much more?

Or do you simply order from wherever is the best price?

I usually default to the cheapest price, but I go back in forth in my mind.
