The MOC Joan of Arc is possibly the best Blu-ray ever released. I don't see how Criterion could possibly top it, and the MOC is dirt cheap right now.

Here's an interview about the restoration on the MOC disc:

I own every Criterion blu and I don't think a single one came from Amazon. B&N sales and the 2 yearly Criterion.com flash sales account for about 90% of my purchases, with Best Buy and places like deepdiscount accounting for the rest.

Amazon prices are rarely as low as the Criterion.com flash sale prices, especially when you factor in the loyalty points.

Criterion charges wholesalers $24 per title (for a $40 title.) if you buy from Amazon, their stock gets low and they'll have to replenish. so, unless you're buying titles on the secondary market, you're supporting them good n plenty (really rings the bell... DING! (sorry, couldn't help myself))

I try to support them directly but usually only purchase there on flash sales, since i want a lot of titles it's hard for me to justify paying full price since i am already spending a lot, need to purchase less titles this year, but they keep releasing great movies .

I order Criterion Blu-rays or DVDs from the least expensive or most convenient source available at the particular time that I get a hankering to own a particular movie. I order directly from Criterion once or twice a year, usually during the flash sale, but I also buy from Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Convenience is a pretty big deal for me a lot of the time, even more so than price points. If I'm shopping at the Movie Stop location on the way home and happen to spot a good Criterion title for $32.99, I'll buy it from there although I can order it cheaper elsewhere, simply because it's right there in front of me.

I buy most of my Criterions during the B&N sales, with a few from the Criterion flash sale while I'm waiting for the next B&N sale. I've bought a handful from other sources (eBay, Amazon sales, deepdiscount, etc). Occasionally, I'll pre-order a title from Amazon if it's one I'm really looking forward to. Mostly it's about maximizing my blu ray budget.

I would think that Amazon buys a large enough volume to warrant a better price than the regular wholesale rate.

I always assumed there was a similar deal in place that initiates the B&N sales as well.

Interesting thoughts on purchasing locations. Thanks, All.

In the end, I am maximizing my buying power, which should probably be a better approach.

I do the same... Amazon if their price is lowest, Criterion's website during their twice-a-year flash sales, and B&N during their twice-a-year 50% sales. But I tend to give Criterion's website the benefit of the doubt if the price difference between it and Amazon is only a couple dollars, because of Criterion's rewards program that gives you a $50 gift certificate for every $500 you spend on their website.

Fantastic Planet already has a pretty nice Blu-ray actually. For a Warner catalog title, it's one of their best releases. A Criterion release would still be cool but I would prefer some new titles announced. Titles without any Blu-ray release yet.

If it's to be classic science fiction, I would prefer either The Thing from Another Planet or The Incredible Shrinking Man.
