In for Make Way for Tomorrow. Definitely. On the fence about Limelight.

edit: just noticed that Limelight is available on Hulu Plus. I should check it out.

Yay, another month of films I don't give a shit about. I guess Criterion's taste in film and my own are so different nowadays that I'm really stupid for getting my hopes up every announcement day.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming!

I'm in for Limelight, but nothing else jumps out at me.

This is a good thing, because my wallet will want a breather after the awesome April lineup.

I'm disappointed by the lack of a Z upgrade but chuffed to bits about State of Siege. I didn't really care for the Confession but I will probably end up buying it near release so as to communicate support for Costa-Gavras on BD.

Definitely in for The Rose (been waiting on that FOREVER) and Fassbinder. The Confession sound pretty interesting so might blind buy that one.

You really should, let me know if you want recommendations. I'm so glad they carried the Wenders commentary from the old dvd!

If I didn't have MoC's Make Way For Tomorrow I would be pretty excited for that one too.

I'm down for Limelight and Make Way for Tomorrow (anyone that likes Tokyo Story or last year's Love is Strange should check this out.)

Good stuff.

Really, Criterion... 2 new Costa-Gavras films added to the colllection before you upgrade Z to Blu-ray??? Sigh... both of these sound interesting, and I may purchase both, but nothing jumps out at me this month for a "must buy."

While I'm happy for any new films to enter the Collection, I really wish Criterion would switch the ratio of new films vs. upgrades to skew more towards the upgrades...

Well, there goes the implausible idea that Criterion managed to wrangle some Disney titles. I figured this is what The Rose was for.

Yeah, I'm not jumping for joy over anything but 4/6 probables is a pretty good month. And truthfully, I'm not completely ruling out Limelight or The Rose...they just don't interest me at all right now.

Two Costas-Gravas and neither of them are Z.

That does seem odd, all right.

Nooooo! I fear THE ROSE means that MCCABE AND MRS MILLER isn't coming after all...

I'll pick up a couple of those but I've got to say - from my selfish perspective - this year has been the worst set of releases for as far back as I can remember.

I've not seen State of Siege, but I've read that it's very much a spiritual sequel to Z and very nearly as good.

And I think its reasons like your dismissal of State of Siege that are the reason they don't do so many upgrades! It's so much more important these unknown gems of films get out there than to simply bring out the old standards.
