wow...I pay $60 for a copy of The Third Man off ebay and he ships it in a small cardboard box that smashes it

the slip and case are all crushed. will the plastic cases from criterion solve this or should I complain?

I would complain, keeping in mind that you can always drop 5 bucks and get a new case from criterion. By complaining, maybe he'll give you a discount or something.

Hey guys, I've been out of the Criterion loop for some time now, and I don't want to go through pages of comments. Any recent deals lately? What the cheapest place to buy Criterion at the moment?

Wait until July 13th and go to Barnes and Noble for their 50% off sale.

Default "The Leopard" packaging.

Is Criterion's release of "The Leopard" in the newer style of plastic cases?
Or is it in the digi-pak style of the earlier blu-ray releases?
Is there a slip case to the packaging?
Is any one prepared to post an image of the set?

I had the exact same thing happen to me. Of course I was going to just order the plastic case anyway, but at $60.00 you expect better.

P.S., whoever has the Flicker Alley release of Murnau's Phantom, can you tell me how well the transfer is? Flicker Alley looks to have good transfers and I was wondering if I should buy FA's release instead of having to import the MoC release.

I also wanted to post this funny thing for no reason. A gagged smilie.
WHY DID YOU TELL ME THIS????...now i has to buys!!!!

I'm not big into buying DVDs lately...but I might give this some serious thought.

Please let me know when you pick this up and what you think about it.

I prob won't pick it up until the B&N Criterion sale happens, so I can get everything I want at once. And also since I pre-ordered the Steamboat Bill Jr. blu-ray that came out today, I don't want to place another order right now.

Also the price is $35.99 right now on Amazon, so hopefully it drops a little between now and a couple weeks.

$36 for Chicago on dvd and $72 for the Josef Von Sternberg silents on dvd is too much to think about. Too bad Criterion can't ask for the blu rights for those silents right now. I'll buy the dvds, but it feels better spending that much on something if they were on blu.

Hello. I was wondering if there was a complete list of all criterion dvd releases that are thick, have 2-3 dvds, a booklet and so one. Releases like Vampyr, Breathless and Seven Samurai.

Charade is up for Pre-order at DVDEmpire. This is the first place I've found with a price listed. It's $28.27

Hopefully we'll have some competing prices shortly

The simple answer is "yes, kinda, not reallly." It's on Criterion's site, except you're actually gonna have to do the work. It'll tell you for each release if it's one disc or multiple discs, but not all of their multiple disc releases come in a cardboard slipcase like "Vampyr" and the others. All of their releases have a booklet of some sort, I'm pretty sure, but how thick of a booklet are you talking? Maybe, someone else has already done all the work for you, but I doubt it. Check out Wikipedia, check out reviews on multiple sites, check out images posted by buyers on Amazon, etc.

Also, look on criterionforum.org. Chris over there has a whole packaging section for all of the discs that he reviews.

I'm sure I, along with others in the forum, could glance at every one of the 500+ titles on the Criterion site and tell you one way or another, but I don't think that would be good use of our time. Sorry about that. Good luck, though, in your quest.

CC

I assume you mean the paper digipaks since you mentioned those three films specifically. Quick look at my shelves:

Mishima: Life in Four Chapters
The Furies
Two Lane Blacktop
Bicycle Thieves
Pandora's Box
Battle of Algiers
Slacker
Amarcord
Ugetsu
Fanny & Alexander
Sansho the Bailiff
Dazed and Confused
The Complete Mr. Arkadin
The Human Condition
Videodrome

and many others that I'm missing.
