I guess there are some cons to very large screens too LOL

Does the fact that you had to go outside this thread for three of your four examples make your point or mine?

Jarmusch made the right choice in not succumbing to the typical 80s trappings, which I appreciated, seeing as how I generally hate the 80s.
Mystery Train was a day-1 blind buy for me. I've seen the film 5-6 times since it was released on blu-ray. The poster hangs in my movie room.

SpiderBaby (or BabySpider, as I like to refer) is neither man nor woman... Spider Baby just is.

How does Antichrist DVD from Criterion look on big screen? I fount he DVD quality for that film to be really incredible.

That's a weird one for me. It's been on my shelf for years but even when it manages to find its way into the player I either get interrupted or something isn't quite right. The room is too bright, it's too late and I don't want to play with volume control, that kind of thing.

In a weird way it's a compliment to Jarmusch but it's going to take me forever to actually watch the damn thing

I don't have that dvd, but for example i compared the dvd from the dual format of The Great Beauty and looked horrible on Dvd, i think it is probably because of the grain structure of the film, so probably most newest movies shot on digital would fare better.

awesome! I'd like to get something larger than my 47", but don't know if I'd have the room. I'd love to get a projector, but I certainly wouldn't have the room for that. I bet the diff between DVD and blu-ray is more drastic in your set up. I'm content with some of my DVDs still - even for films I love. If I have the "large screen" problem some day, I'll have to reassess.

I can't believe this site even has a section for DVDs or digital copies (i.e. UV and iTunes) or Video Games, can you? I mean... what kind of smoke and mirrors site is this, anyway? I'm just flabbergasted!

Yeah, i really didn't have many Dvds before i started collecting blu rays, so my post was mostly referring to purchasing films i don't already own, since i haven't had to deal much with deciding if an upgrade is worth it.

Tell me, Octagon.. which of the following is true?:
1) You love to play devil’s advocate
2) You noticed that I am not afraid to engage in a debate.. some might even say that I’m the “excitable” type and you love to try to get in my craw
3) Your opinions and viewpoints are just plain lousy

Most times I don’t feel the need to engage you in discussion. Just posting here to let you know that I’m on to you, as my hunch is that #2 is correct. Although to a lesser extent 3 and 1 are also true.

Would you be offended if I said I hadn't really noticed any of that and that I don't really spend all that much time thinking about your craw.

(well, until now, anyway...now the whole 'don't think about blue elephants' thing is in play)

No. In that case, my #3 assumption was correct.

If you love Mystery Train, I recommend you check out Jarmusch's other 80s (and 90s) films! Personally, my favorite Jarmusch in the collection is Down by Law, which I think is a work of deadpan brilliance. Also check out his compilation of Night on Earth (available on Criterion DVD) and Stranger Than Paradise (Criterion DVD). Personally, I'd love to see Ghost Dog come to Criterion blu-ray. That would be day 1 for me.
