I'm a newbie to crirerions, I'll be getting:

Seven samurai
Rashomon
High and Low
Solaris
The 400 Blows
Les Diaboliques
Being John Malkovich
Days of Heaven

and probably 2 others to make an even 10. I've only seen Malkovich and Diabolique of the above. Can't wait

Kubrick adapted the U.S. edition, which was missing the last, 21st, chapter.

True, but he stated after the fact that he still wouldn't have used that chapter had he known about it, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

This isn't directed at you specifically but I usually find the least useful opinions on films to be the people who wrote the source material, followed quickly by those who have read the source material. Those people tend to have the hardest time seeing the film as it's own work, and are frequently unable to view it or establish opinions of the work without comparisons to the source, myself included.

I probably avoid films that are adapted if I'm familiar with the source material for the same reasons.

If you're looking for two more, just based on your list of 8, I would highly recommend Wages of Fear and The Thin Red Line.

You are so right! Funny, I never thought about "The Face of Another" when I saw "Seconds" and I own it on DVD.

I actually have Wages of Fear, 1 of 4 criterions I own

I was debating Thin Red Line. If I don't pick it up for the flash sale I'll get it at the next BN 50% sale.

If you need two more and you enjoy Terrence Malick then I would say get his other two films, Badlands and Thin Red Line. But since you said you've only seen two of those films you listed, you might want to check some out on huluplus ans Netflix (days of heaven). I know days of heaven is always recommended on here but I really did not care for it but I will say it is a beautiful film aesthetically

Umberto D
Watership Down

Masaki Kobayashi Eclipse

That's what I'm thinking at the moment... kind of want to get a ton of others but trying to be responsible...

During the Flash sale, I want to pick up Don't Look Now, Sundays and Cybele, and a package of 5 clear blu-ray replacement cases. That'll bring my order total to about $52.00, which will qualify me for free shipping. I think that should tide me over until the July B&N sale ...

Man. Theres just too much I want from the recent releases. Going to have to go easy (as I've already spend a bit more than usual in February - plus I'm dong some home remodeling which is a financial drain at the moment).

Hopefully when you qualify for that $50 treshold they give it to you right away to use on the next order (as I recall my next order reaches that $500 mark or whatever it was, I just know I'm close). Anyone know for sure so I can figure out my orders? I've already spent too much in February. I wouldn't feel so bad spending $60 and then only having to spend $10 more to get 3 more titles. That's about my limit right now, sadly. Going to have to wait until later in the year for anything else (i.e. B&N sale).

I will likely get these:

Order 1 (definite!):
Time Bandits
An Autumn Afternoon
It Happened One Night

Order 2: (if I get the $50 extra)
Fellini Satyricon
Don't Look Now
Sword of Doom.

Your "My Account" page at Criterion.com well tell you. Once you complete the order that puts you past the threshold, you should receive your email with your $50 cert within minutes.
