It doesn't bother me. But in the operation of the "Greatest Fool Theory" someone will pay a price so high that no one will pay a higher price. That person is the greatest fool because that person is left holding the bag, if the only reason for buying was the assumption that that someone would pay more. I bought "Christine" and had to create an entry for it on Amazon, offering it at $125. So some others came along and offered for as much as $200 or so. After one sold for less than $125, I quickly dropped my price to $100 and it sold right away. I cut the price to avoid becoming the greatest fool. A race to the bottom started and it became available for around $80. It may have gone higher, later. It would be fair to say that I was a lesser fool.

Default Emmanuel Lubezki

I was looking at the filmography for cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki. I had no idea that he is Mexican. Secondly, I was very surprised to know that his biggest (or maybe I should just say longest running) relationship is not with Terrence Malick, but with Alfonso Cuarón. He was the cinematographer for Y Tu Mamá También, Gravity, Children of Men, and Criterion’s other Cuarón title - Sólo con tu pareja.

Speaking of Sólo con tu pareja, I thought it was a fun film. It plays out a little bit like an Almodóvar movie. Lubezki’s cinematography itself is reason enough to see the film. Very striking! I’d recommend it.

I'm well in the Lubezki camp, too. I have some complicated, unresolved feelings with regard to Birdman, but was floored by his work on that film, as well as the others.

Children of Men would make for a nice Criterion.

So, can we expect another B&N Criterion Sale around Memorial Day?

I'm hoping that's the case.

Only seen bits of it - not bought as only DVD from Criterion, but might check out some point if I can find on Netflix

I forgot he worked on Sleepy Hollow, and tbh didn't know he did The Birdcage (wasn't a fan of the remake but might revisit!) and also Cat in the Hat which I might watch now just for his work! haha

No offence to people but these Sale posts are more annoying than "Wheres Mulholland Dr!" haha :P (and I'm one of those MDr people!)

I saw this in the theater and haven't seen it again since. I didn't quite have a keen eye for cinematography and other things of the sort when I saw it, so it needs a rewatch.

people have said this before and I've now been around here long enough to witness it - after MD is released another film will most certainly take its place.

I'm curious though.. I was around for "Where is The Life Aquatic?" and now we have "Where is Mulholland Drive?" what was before the Wes Anderson film? what were people pining for the most?

I haven't caught up with it in a while, either, but I remember being enthralled by it and liking it. The camerawork prefigures the long-take stuff that characterizes both Gravity and Birdman. Definitely worth revisiting.

No, it's not. At least not the "50% off Criterion" sale. B&N holds two of those a year -- the first in July, the second in November.

I was finally opened my copy of "Criterion Designs" last night after finally getting a good condition replacement for the copy I received in November.

If anyone hasn't picked it up, I highly recommend it. It is an absolutely gorgeous book.

Its an incredible book - shame they had to miss out on some designs on the bigger pages but oh well! Can always have another release in the future! haha.

The fold out pages are divine! I am tempted to buy a second just to cut those spreads out to frame them haha!

By the way, thanks for this. I looked up Patrick Willems on youtube, and watched some of his other, similar parodies. I especially liked "What if Ingmar Bergman Directed The Flash?", "What if Sergio Leone Directed The Punisher?", and some (but not all) of the Point Break remakes by various directors -- the Malick and Lynch ones being the best.
