Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. I agree that a character doesn't have to be blatantly sympathetic, but the characters in the film were very unlikeable. I think your Psycho reference is actually pretty apt, and I agree. I just don't think it happens here.

Sorcerer was Friedken's American remake... with Roy Scheider.

I kind of like that they were "unlikeable." But I sorta liked Yves Montand's character by the end.

At one point the road becomes very winding....... almost "loop-like"

I think you need to watch it again

In all seriousness, I often express why I like, or dislike a film, but I wouldn't try to tell someone they 'should' have liked or disliked a film......

I am just not sure why the character's likability is that big of a factor for you. The overlying desire of everyone not to die makes it interesting to me, regardless of the character's the director used. The circumstances and struggle is what drives the film...... Some films you pull for the villain, other times for the hero, and occasionally you pull for that random dude.....

Me neither. I can see why it took them so long, because they are probably not all that happy with it either, but "that one" was the best they could come up with. [In reality I think a lot of their artwork sucks any more, so there you go. Just yet another cover that doesn't really work for me.]

Jhiggy, I appreciate you explaining your point and understand where you are coming from, but still think you missed the point of what Clouzot was trying to do. The reason why I pointed it out was I believe you need to be careful when commenting on a film to others. Your comments could have turned many people off to a film that is considered one of the better films in the collection. IMO it is one of the building blocks to modern action/suspense films. But in the end, interested parties need to see one mans opinion is to be seen as an opinion.

And don't forget "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" pre-order is up, as well.

When Amazon price matches B&N's 50% off sale, are their preorders price matched as well?

I certainly didn't mean to turn people off to it, but if they're turned off because of the opinion I presented, then that's their fault and not mine. Wages of Fear is considered one of the great films of all-time for a reason and I do think it's one of the best suspense films--I simply think it could have been ever better. It's not a film that I would tell people not to watch, because it's an important film. If they share my opinion, as others on this site have done, then that should because they think it and not because of my humble opinion. I do look forward to more of his films, though.

I got up EARLY today and watched a rental copy of Everlasting Moments...

A wonderful combination of a film well shot, directed, and acted...also a film that not only sucked me in emotionally, but I was able to relate to a lot of the dysfunction that was represented.

A very lovely film...and one that I will be adding to my collection next week!

It is truly an incredible film and one of the gems so far of the Criterion collection.

Speaking of Clouzot, Diabolique would make for an excellent blu-ray.

No, nothing is on sale past the final date of the sale.

I just bought "Scenes From A Marriage" recently and I've been wanting to watch it but I'm not sure which version is best to watch first? Can anyone tell me if it would be best watch the tv version first or the us theatrical cut?

I just watched them "in order". Was fine that way.

Remember this being on PBS (or whatever it was called then) back in the day, but never watched it that I can remember. Many years of curiosity finally (very) satisfied a year or so ago for me.

Still need to check out Saraband though. But heck, if Bergman could wait nearly 30 years to do the followup, suppose I can wait a few myself.

The TV version is the complete version that originally aired on television in Sweden. The U.S. edition is cut down by several hours to make a theatrical run time in the states more acceptable.

So, watch the TV version.

Damn, so I went to two Barnes & Nobles and they didn't have Pierrot le fou.

ARGH! I wish I had seen this movie sooner.

Wonder if Amazon will include it if they match the 50% off sale.

Why not order it from the website or ask the guy in the store to order it for you? I'm sure they have some in their warehouses, despite it being OOP. There's two at my store.

True, does anyone know when the sale usually starts online? Is it usually midnight EST time?
