This is superb news - hopefully UTEOTW is actually going to be coming out on Blu/DVD at some point soon.

I have been a fan of this film ever since seeing it on VHS tape way back in 1993 - unfortunately, haven't seen it since then - due to it's unavailability on R1 DVD. I also own the soundtrack, which is amazing.

Yes. Kind of like a Flash Flood that you don't see coming until it hits you.

For what it's worth. Items in my cart went from "Ships within 2 biz days" to "Ship within 3 biz days" and with the downtime earlier today...

Since you guys seem to have more experience with the 50% off sales and therefore the shipping costs--with Criterion's shipping charges included, would it be cheaper to buy through their sale for $20 with each copy (assuming I maybe get just two), or to buy them for $23-25 each from amazon with my free Prime shipping (which would arrive a lot faster)?

I saw Bunuel’s The Phantom of Liberty this past weekend. Although I am a big fan of his work, I wasn’t expecting to connect with this one. I had read somewhere that late in his career, Bunuel felt like he was repeating himself. My understanding, also, was that TPoL has a lot in common with The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, which, for the moment, is my least favorite Bunuel. It does bear similarities, but I enjoyed The Phantom of Liberty quite a bit more. Each scene seems self-contained – that is, you can begin watching the movie at any point and be entertained. Bunuel’s point seems to be a bit more accessible in this one as well.

It is unfortunate that a title like this one seems to be in some sort of limbo. The CC DVD doesn’t look too bad to my eyes, although it really didn’t get high marks on ‘that other site.’ There is a decent sized interview printed in the booklet that was a decent read.

You could probably do a test to see how much is shipping cost and if they charge taxes to your address and do the math.

On Amazon is pretty easy to see how much will be the total by going to the last checkout step.

if they are 23 each at Amazon, shipping would have to be over $6 at Criterion (I'm fairly certain that it is less) to make Amazon a better deal.

my advice... wait for the seemingly probably sale tomorrow and find another title to really get your money's worth - 3 for 60. even after their sales, their shipping is pretty quick.

If you spend $50, you get free shipping, as others have mentioned, so it might be best to buy 3 instead of 2.

Also, for every $500 you spend on criterion's website, you get a $50 gift certificate, so you'd be building up to that $500 level as well.

The question of evening then, it seems, is whether The Soft Skin and Ride the Pink Horse will be included in the flash? Criterion's site still shows The Soft Skin as having a March 10th date, but Amazon has it listed as the 17th.

I mentioned this last week. My retailer has knocked it back to the 17th too.

I bet the sale will be tomorrow so The Soft Skin will be included. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking

It's already in stock so it would be included no matter what.

Just to cover all bases, Day-Lewis has an uncredited bit part in Sunday Bloody Sunday also (he was 14 or so at the time of filming).

WW, I saw Tideland in a theater when it was first released. The reviews that I read were so virulent that I felt as if I had to see what the fuss was about. I wish that I had liked it better -- Gilliam is always interesting at the very least, even if his movies work better as ideas than actual finished products. But, I felt the movie was perhaps being odd just for the sake of being odd. The best thing in the movie was Jeff Bridges's character and
[Show spoiler]he dies off early on, but even so he's still present for much of the rest of the movie
The characters introduced later on in the movie felt forced to me, and 10 year old Jodelle Ferland wasn't enough of an actress (at least in this role) to be able to carry the movie as the main character.

I would say, see this only if you are a die-hard Gilliam fan, or a lover of the unusual for unusual's sake.
