Really hate the USPS. Tracking says scheduled delivery today but hasn't shown any change since arriving at origin facility in Louisville, KY on Wednesday. Was hoping it just hadn't been updated for some reason but the mailman has come and gone and I have no Criterion blu's.

I just finished watching the new 30th Anniversary Blu-ray of the 1985 John Hughes film, The Breakfast Club, and I thoroughly enjoyed revisiting this film for perhaps the hundredth time in my life. Of all of the reinterpretations of the John Ford's 1939 film, Stagecoach, this particular film is one of the most lively, and the concept of disparate characters being brought together by circumstance that was blueprinted in the Ford film comes across particularly well in this youth-oriented take. I've always figured that about a third of the movies that have been released after Stagecoach have followed its blueprint in rough form, and that's why it was such a great addition to the Criterion Collection.

In other Criterion news...

My Blu-rays of Harakiri, Heaven's Gate, An Autumn Afternoon, and The Sword of Doom all arrived in the mail today. Woo hoo!

Really, why haven't they got Bicycle Thieves out yet? I've had the Arrow release for I believe over 3 years now. Your list would make an absolutely jaw dropping month. By the way, the current Gilda blu-ray is well worth picking up and is region A compatible.

As far as my hopes and dreams, I am still wishing they'll upgrade these two:
The Hit
Homicide

both of which were released in 2009, well after they started to release blu-rays. So it's possible they don't feel they are worth putting money into, but I can hope!

Agreed... Criterion announced/hinted at this coming to Blu ages ago (ok, maybe 2-3 years ago), so I've put off buying the DVD...

And count me in for upgrades to The Hit and Homicide... we're getting The Friends of Eddie Coyle, which was released on DVD during that time frame, so there is hope!

You're right about Coyle, I forgot about that. Maybe there is more light in that tunnel than I had thought then. There is a BD of The Hit that was released in Italy and Spain but the reviews pretty much trash it.

Inspired film from Scorsese who felt deeply on the subject, and a great performance from Willem Dafoe. Well worth watching.
The Last Temptation of Christ is simply one of the most mind-blowing films I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to watch it for the first time on my Criterion DVD I bought many many years ago. Now I have the blu-ray as well (and with it comes a truly sharper/more life-like image). I just love how Scorcese approached the material and especially how this film was edited and scored. I think it might be Martin Scorcese's finest film actually.

Love love love love it! So bizarre and creepy! I love the style of it, almost like a silent film but with narration.

Is it on Criterion Bluray?

Cronenberg's Crash, please. Dead Ringers would be nice too.

And I too would like some Peter Greenaway.

Mulholland Drive used to be on my list but I bought the German set (for about $16 shipped) and it's all I need.

If you want the leaflet, then yes. Just explain how you didn't receive a leaflet and they should send you one. Over the summer, my booklet for Modern Times came damaged and I got a free replacement booklet for it, which arrived in about a week. I'd think that would probably be a similar process to you getting a leaflet.

I received my Criterion Flash Sale order via UPS this afternoon! That's pretty amazing, considering that I live off an unpaved county road near a town with a population of only 791 ... and we're the county seat, which means we've got all the government offices and county services!

Don't Look Now
Jubal
Sundays and Cybčle
5 clear blu-ray cases
Night of the Hunter replacement case

I drove into town and mailed my bronzed copy of Summer Hours to Jon Mulvaney yesterday; it should arrive in New York on Monday. Hopefully my replacement disc will be sent out and arrive fairly quickly ...
