Clearly a loose digipack is not the packaging he prefers. That's pretty obvious, no?

About MDC
[Show spoiler]Did anyone find odd the shots and editing just before the Corral shootout? it was very disorienting, not sure if it was on purpose but i was unable to get a sense of the space and where were the characters placed, which was a bit bothersome.

Anyway what struck me is that the Picture quality of MDC is almost perfect, and the one of IHON, while good for most parts, is much more inconsistent and distracting yet it has 4.5 vs Clementine 4
I, too, found the PQ rating for MDC to be rather strange because, to my eyes, it looks impeccable. There are a few other ones in the collection for which I disagree with Pro-B. Leon Morin is too high and Rififi does not look like a 5 star transfer to me. Picnic at Hanging Rock might be the best looking CC release I’ve seen. Was surprised that it didn’t get a 5 star rating.. a half star diff is probably nit-picking, though.

The 39 Steps is the next most highly regarded. Many seem to like FC. I like them all... The Man Who Knew Too Much, included, but I don't think too many call that one their fav out of the 4.

TLV is definitely my favorite of the 4.

Speaking of older Hitchcock, don't be surprised if The Lodger gets announced in the next couple months.

I finally broke down and ordered the region-B Network release.

I thought you weren't a fan of Hitch's work prior to Rebecca?

I've warmed up a bit to early Hitchcock over the past few years and I've really taken a liking to silent films in general.

The Lodger had been sitting on my Amazon.uk wishlist for a year or two and I was ordering other stuff last week and thought 'what the hell'.

I think that may have been the advice with "Tree of Life," too. Is Malick's estate setting aside some dough for the inevitable claims for hearing loss?

I saw Blackmail last summer at the Music Box with a live orchestra. I'd recommend that one if you haven't seen it yet. Might have been the experience of a packed theater and the live music, but I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it is.

I changed my opinions on two films last night.

The first film I re-watched was Harold and Maude. I absolutely detested this film on my initial watch, thinking it barbaric and unbearable. I absolutely loved it this go-around and think it's one of the best films ever made. Maybe it's because I have more knowledge on the era in which it was made or maybe I just got the dark humor and related to the loneliness more so than I originally did. Anyway, this one is a keeper.

The second film I re-watched was Foreign Correspondent. I initially found it to be one of Hitchcock's worse films and a dragged out bore, but on this watch I found it to be incredibly suspenseful and engrossing, although still a little over the top at times, especially with the relationship. I'm pretty sure it's now my second favorite Hitchcock film in the Criterion Collection behind The Lady Vanishes. While I really liked it, I don't think I'll keep it. In fact, that seems to be the trend with Hitchcock for me. I like most of his films, but the only ones I see myself owning are The Lady Vanishes, Lifeboat, North by Northwest, Notorious, Psycho, Rear Window, and Vertigo.

I love how Terrence Malick is basically the only director who emphasizes turning up the volume on his films. He belongs in a special category for directors who want you to take his films seriously. The same goes for David Lynch who likes for audiences to properly calibrate their television sets before watching his films.

I agree wholeheartedly with your reassessments of Harold and Maude and Foreign Correspondent; I didn't much care for them during my first viewings many years ago, but upon being reacquainted with them courtesy of the Criterion Collection, I now fully embrace them as cinematic treasures.

That said, I kind of screeched to a mental halt when I put myself in your shoes and pondered the possibility of not owning my very own copies of Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt, Lifeboat, Strangers on a Train, and The Birds ... nope, nope, nope. Just couldn't do it. I'm a Hitchcock junkie and have no wish to rid myself of my addiction. You're a braver man than I am, iScottie!

Like I said, I like most of his films. I do not care for anything pre-The Lady Vanishes, really, or anything post-Torn Curtain.

Regarding your list, I was not particularly keen on Strangers on a Train, but I do like the others, I just don't love them (which is what I'm trying to attain with my collection).

Not sure if I have asked this but:

What are the most mysterious films in collection?

Films like:

Picnic at Hanging Rock

The Double Life of Veronique

Can't think of many others tbh - Virgin Suicides has the same feel too, but obviously not in collection!

Like I want something that is so mysterious it leaves you days and weeks thinking about it and trying to find answers. I am struggling to find anything similar to the above Not sure if I would include Marketa Lazarova?
