Hoping Pather Panchali will be offered in a stand alone release. Unlikely, but I wish.

On another note, the Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara set is over $150+ everywhere I look. That was unexpected. A magnificent set btw.

MASH is pretty darn entertaining, as well.
I'd like to see a really great restoration/release of The Player.

3 Women is one of the most underrated films of the 1970s. It's unparalleled in eeriness and atmosphere. The kind of banal yet equally surreal depiction of everyday life, or the life of two American misfits, is on par with the work of David Lynch. The performances by Spacek and Duvall are really something else too.

Since we're talkinhg about Altman, I would love a Criterion IMAGES!
From what I know, Arrow is preparing an Altman, I hope it's this then if it can't be Criterion.

Do any of you know where I can find printable original Criterion covers? Preferably free.

Yeah, I mentioned Images. Just got the OOP DVD the other day. The Altman film that is most like 3 Women if you ask me, although I haven't seen all Altmans. I don't even know who owns the rights in the UK. It's only been released on DVD in USA (MGM) and Italy twice (Cecchi Gori). Not a well known film, for example it only has two reviews on rottentomatoes. Where did you read that Arrow are preparing another Altman - or did you read that before they released The Long Goodbye? I'd say a Thieves Like Us release by Arrow is a little more likely.

I thought that maybe Kino would release Images since they released three MGM Altmans from the 70s in a short period of time (Long Goodbye, Thieves Like Us and Buffalo Bill and the Indians). Maybe the fact that they haven't means that Criterion has it reserved. In fact I think these are the only four Altman films period that MGM has the rights for, so it would be weird if Kino released three of them and didn't want to release the fourth. Someone might have it reserved and if that's the case, then it's probably Criterion.

They said it on their facebook within this last month.

edit: Here it is:

one person says:

IMAGES makes sense, as it's owned by MGM/UA, from whom Arrow licensed THE LONG GOODBYE.
I hope he's right!

Damn. I was intrigued by the films in that set and was hoping for a BD upgrade. Guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the DVD at used stores.

regarding the extra being available only on the Blu-Ray version ... it now refer to the DVD, and not Blu-Ray.

Has anyone found confirmation for Vampyr to Blu?

FROM DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD TODAY:

Janus Films has unveiled the release of new 4K restorations of Satiyajit Ray’s Bengali-language cinematic milestone The Apu Trilogy. With the original negatives severely damaged in a nitrate fire in 1993, restoration of the trilogy, considered to be perhaps the greatest film in Indian film history, was long thought impossible. However, the damaged negatives were preserved by the Academy Film Archive, and recent technological developments have made restoration — a joint project by the Academy and L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna — possible. Based on the novel duology by author Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, the trilogy — Pather Panchali (Song Of The Little Road), Aparajito (The Unvanquished) and Apur Sansar (The World Of Apu) — tells the coming of age of a young Bengali boy in the early 20th century. Boasting a score by Ravi Shankar, the films were made on a tiny budget using amateur actors. The films will begin national re-release May 8 at Film Forum in New York City, and May 29 at Landmark’s Nuart Theater in Los Angeles, with a wide release in art house theaters to follow.

Wow! So you're a fellow Cancer?!

But seriously, that "Wow!" above refers to your collection. I took a moment to look through your list of "Owns" and "Wants", and I admire your tastes. Your Criterion Collection collection (?) is outstanding. It was educational, also, to see all the MoC and Eureka titles that you own which are not yet available to those of us who are Region A only. Cool beans!

I watched The Wages of Fear last night, it was very good! It didn't quite live up to the hype, the first hour or so was very slow, the characters aren't that likable, and because of those things the urgency to succeed on their mission was a little lacking IMO. Maybe if Mario had an actual relationship with that one girl? Idk. But once they started the trucks, it picked up and became very interesting and suspenseful. The cinematography was great, I loved the look of the scene early on in their journey when they're passing through the tall, thin trees, and the second truck passes them. I just realized while typing this, I'm not sure there was even a musical score, or it was used sparingly, an interesting and appreciated artistic choice. Too much music would've sucked away some of the tension. Overall, a well-done thriller that I will certainly pick up at some point.

4/5

I'm still somewhat mixed how I feel on the ending. It almost felt unnecessary?

If you haven't seen it yet, you can watch it on netflix before buying it. The quality is not the best but you can watch it before buying because I don't know if i could recommend it as a blind buy. It is a really strange, eerie movie, but for me I felt it was a bit too strange and the pacing was a bit off. I am all for eerie movies that linger with you but this one didn't linger in a good way. Hope this helps.

I'm 100% serious, just joking at the potential backlash a statement like that could make! That's a film that almost goes beyond the medium for me, and one I'd truly call a piece of art.
