I just ordered Mystery Train and Stagecoach and out of nowhere they gave me free 1-3 day expedited shipping. Bonus I guess!

BTW...for those that have never seen them (such as myself)...

Both "The Red Shoes" and "Black Narcissus" are available to stream on NetFlix (though they are NOT the Criterion versions).

The Red Shoes I watched about a week or two ago...I may hold off on it for now. I'm planning to watch Black Narcissus right now and see how I feel.

LOL...I've only watched the opening credits and like the look of it so far.

Can anyone confirm which carrier B&N uses to ship to Canada? I can't find this listed on their website, and I'm afraid they may use UPS. One of the reasons I tend to buy from Amazon is that they ship via USPS which means no ludicrous brokerage fees

hmmm... it'd be nice to have a list of these coupons somewhere so you don't have to keep going back page after page trying to find one that works.

I tried the U8K code, and it's telling me that my order isn't eligible (Have M, Yojimbo/Sanjuro and Che in my cart). The W3P code on the other hand works . <--- EDIT: ok you have to finish creating the account, and then go back and enter the U8K code for it to work.

Are you a member? The U8K code is only for members.

They use USPS. There are no customs or brokerage charges. Their shipping to Canada is actually a lot cheaper than Amazon. At Barnes and Noble, it is 3.99 plus 1.99 for each dvd. So if your placing a reasonable sized order, it's pretty fair, IMO. Only downside is that they are a little slow and it usually takes about 3-4 weeks to arrive. (I am in Alberta)

My first dip into the sale:

1. Hunger
2. Everlasting Moments
3. Complete Monterey Pop Festival (I've been wanting this one for quite awhile ).

Probably will go back later for The Leopard. Unsure about The Red Shoes - for some reason it just doesn't seem appealing to me even at a discount.

Monsoon Wedding is also a question mark for me. Anyone have strong opinions on this movie? I've read the review but I still am unsure of what type of movie I would be watching. Is it a comedy, drama, comedy/drama, drama.comedy, or what?

Thanks very much for the reply. That's too bad about the slow shipping time. I've just placed an order for 13 movies and the estimated ship time is 5-7 days. Hopefully that proves to be true!

I would classify it as a light-drama..... not really comedy, but not a very deep-emotional (as in a downer!) type of drama....

This may sound stupid, but how in the hell do you add your AAA card to the order?

The first page of this dvdtalk thread keeps pretty good track of the current (and future) b&n coupons and the various storefronts: LINK.

hit the big sale--
ordered Gimme Shelter, Che, The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, Yojimbo/Sanjuro, and Night Train To Munich.
so I'd say that's a pretty nice haul for the evening.
so many other titles I wanted, but that was enough for one order.
gotta keep it real.

Thanks for the reply. I'll probably hold off on Monsoon Wedding. Right now the only blu-rays I don't own that I probably will end up buying (Criterion) are

1. The Leopard
2. Che
3. Maybe Red Shoes

Beta, does it have the 3 Rene Laloux shorts that the Anchor Bay DVD had?

Monsoon Wedding is awful. "Light Drama" is too kind. It's a melodramatic soap opera of the worst kind. The film becomes so focused on it's various subplots in it's last act that if you blink at the wrong moment, you might miss the actual wedding! Which is a huge mistake, since the contrast between the traditional indian notions of courtship and western ideas of love is the film's central themes. (At least in the first half)

The subplots in the film devolve into borderline nonsense. Seriously, in the last act of the film there is a scene in which a family friend decides to take a child out for ice cream in a car with blacked out windows at 2 AM in the morning and nobody seems to be the least concerned and are shocked when the find out he's a pedophile.

Rubbish.

But I must agree, "Fantastic Planet" is an awesome film! Sort of a French "Yellow Submarine" without the drug references!
