It was my introduction to the career of Henri-Georges Clouzot, and prompted me to seek out his masterpiece of suspense, Diabolique, which I liked even more than The Wages of Fear.

It's funny about the musical score for Fear; as much as I loved the film, I don't remember it, either!

One thing I might add is the fact that the supplements on the Criterion blu-ray are phenomenal, and really increased my appreciation of the film. Since you liked the film, I think you'll appreciate them as well.
I saw Diabolique first, I blind bought it in my first major haul of Criterion BDs in July 2013 when I was first seriously getting into Criterions. The premise, comparisons to Psycho, cool artwork, and place in the IMDb Top 250 sealed it for me, and it was a great film. Need to rewatch it.

Best Criterion news for me personally in awhile.

I feel I can't make an accurate Top 10 atm because most of the films I have seen in the collection I've seen only once, and many I still have yet to see.

Now, on to Criterion-related stuff...

There's an article linked in the Film Noir thread in the main forum here that discusses "Western Noir." The Furies is one of the films that shows up on the list. I never did buy that Criterion DVD, but I'm hoping that it'll be upgraded at some point.

Here is the article link. (Thanks, Edward J Grug III)

I have only 12 so I'll say my top 3:

1) All that Heaven Allows (this has been made a Christmas period staple)
2) Il Sorpasso (I couldn't believe how much I loved this film. It trully lived up to its reputation, and I didn't expected it to)
3) The Thin Red Line (when i first saw this at the cinema i was bored. When I got the DVD (after some raving reviews of its quality) I considered it a masterpiece, mostly from a technical side, but I saw that it had a value itself as a film too. When I watched the Bluray i was a psychological wreck...Of course from the first time at the cinema to the last time on Bluray, 16 years passed)

I haven't seen The Thin Red Line yet, but I love your other two picks, so I'll have to move it up the list.

I must admit to not being a Terrence Malick fan so far though...

Wow, top ten huh? That's tough, but here goes:

1. The Human Condition (DVD, but should be on Blu-ray!)

2. Harakiri

3. Ali: Fear Eats The Soul

4. The Rules Of The Game

5. In The Mood For Love

6. Godzilla

7. Monsieur Verdoux

8. Night Of The Hunter

9. Rushmore

10. Seven Samurai

Man, left off A LOT of films that I love. Also, I only chose from films that I own.

Well that's great, but it's a pity nothing has been mentioned about the Blue is the Warmest Colour special edition that was announced last year. I'm so tired of the bare bones release.

Ten is hard - can I have fourteen please?

In no order, and being my favourites rather than ranked in some sort of importance:
  • Rushmore
  • The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie
  • Wild strawberries
  • The Cranes are Flying
  • Solaris
  • Contempt
  • The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
  • A Canterbury Tale
  • Claire's Knee
  • Amarcord
  • Breathless
  • Fanny and Alexander
  • The Qatsi Trilogy
  • Playtime

Obviously a bunch of DVDs in there... I'd include Tokyo Story only I sold my Criterion DVD for the BFI Blu-ray!

I like lists
