I jumped the gun, like I always do

I managed to get my order canceled, and re-ordered with the Book-store link.

Got:

Black Narcissus
Red Desert
Secret of The Grain
Everlasting Moments
Close Up
The Leopard
AK 100

Shipment Subtotal: $256.43
Shipping & Handling: FREE
Sales Tax: $19.85
Shipment Total: $276.28

Will check around and make another order tomorrow probably.... I just wanted to get one in..... now It's time to start checking my collection, and deciding what DVD boxsets to pick up.

EDIT:

I just realized I got 31 titles for $8.91 each shipped (the only time that smiley should be used )

Sukuri, if this is your first online order with B&N, there's a coupon for an additional 20% off the most expensive item in your order!

I'm picking up The Leopard as well. I already own Che (GREAT film...you won't be disappointed).

I wanted to add a Powell/Pressburger film to my collection and watched The Red Shoes last week...it just didn't do it for me.

HOWEVER...I just finished watching Black Narcissus (NetFlix streaming) and I really enjoyed it...will probably pick this up next week from the B & N store, where I'm buying a number of titles tomorrow.

One thing I noticed was that the items I was looking for this sale were several bucks more higher than they were in November during the Winter Criterion 50% off sale.

I just had a talk with B&N Customer Service and I told them what is the main difference with having a membership card now because I don’t see the 10% off pricing for members anymore, like before.

According to customer service, the changes were made several months ago and the main difference now is that members get coupons and also free express shipping while non-members must order $25 or more to get free shipping.

The 10% off for being a member was no longer valid because the books are being discounted. But you get the coupons.

Personally, I have already benefited with the membership card since the last Criterion November sale with the membership card and coupons but for those planning to get the membership card now and don’t plan to buy from B&N (or until the next sale)... It’s up to you, because now with these third party stores...it may not be worth it. Again, it's great if you continually purchase from the store but as far as I can tell, there are non-member coupons and now you have a choice to use the various third party B&N stores for more savings.

So really, you don’t have to be a member (if you are spending over $25) because going to AAA, Library or the Visa link will give your discount 10% off discount and you also have coupons out there you can use as a non-member or even sign up as a new member to the site and use the 20% off coupon (off one item).

Can any of the "non-member" coupons be used at the B & N stores, or are they just for "online" only?

Ordered via AAA/membership - no coupons

Make Way for Tomorrow - $13.49
Rossellini's War Trilogy - $35.99
Chantal Akerman in the Seventies - Eclipse - $20.24
Ingmar Bergman Trilogy - $35.99
Ingmar Bergman - Four Masterworks - $44.99 (I swear this was cheaper in the last sale back in November)
Summertime - $13.49
TOTAL with sales tax - $177.73

I'll use the stackable AAA coupon for a Samuel Fuller Eclipse Series set: R3F8L4T for the 10% off.

Thought about doing the multiple new member accounts 20% off coupon that some people are doing but I would feel too uncomfortable and have a guilty conscience. So, I decided not too. Oh well... I'm still happy with the pricing of what I got it for, so I'm good.

Anyone have an opinion of Berlin Alexanderplatz? I was considering picking that one up.

As they have told you already, yes, the 20% is in addition to the 50% sale... but it only applies to the single, most expensive item in your order, not the whole order.

If there was one title that many people keep telling me that I should own...it's "Berlin Alexanderplatz". So, my choice is either three or four Blu-rays or Berlin Alexanderplatz. Hehe... (Sigh)... I'm debating right now. But leaning towards BA...

I also want the "Paul Robeson: Portraits of the Artist" but don't know anyone who has it to comment on it.

The only thing I really remember about that is the epilogue.

...but that's not really saying much.

Is there a difference between ordering online vs. pickup at the store vs buying at the store?

Is there any sales tax if I chose to buy online and either let them ship it or pick up at the store?

Does the store have the same prices as the website?

Forgive my ignorance but this would be my first Criterion Sale.

after this sale, it's easier for me to list the things i DON'T have =P now:
-Close-Up (never liked documentaries, even mockumentaries)
-Repulsion
-For All Mankind (NASA bores me)
-Gomorrah
-Wages of Fear
-Monterey Pop
-Gimme Shelter
-El Norte
-A Christmas Story
-Che
-Hunger
-By Brakhage

in all likelihood i'd probably never own any of those =P i've seen most of them except Brakhage. i'm totally anti-Avante Garde.

Probably will go back later for The Leopard. Unsure about The Red Shoes - for some reason it just doesn't seem appealing to me even at a discount.

Monsoon Wedding is also a question mark for me. Anyone have strong opinions on this movie? I've read the review but I still am unsure of what type of movie I would be watching. Is it a comedy, drama, comedy/drama, drama.comedy, or what?
1. The Red Shoes is dazzling--- a must own.
2. Monsoon Wedding is good but not a film worth revisiting, imo.

made an order after 9pm last night (in UK). ordered 'human condition', 'oshimas outlaw sixties' and 'yojimbo & sanjuro' (BD). shipped already, but in two boxes, apparently. how does B&N criterion sales / shipping system work out for non-USA customers, especially in reference to import duty?!
