It's really quite wonderful. On those days when I'd rather just sleep an extra hour in the morning or go straight to the sofa after returning from work, I see that Tippi Hedren photo on my wall, I put on my running shoes, and I'm out the door for a few miles.

The people on Facebook can keep their motivational exercise memes. The Tippi Hedren autograph works for me.

My next goal is to get an autographed Monica Vitti photo that says, "To Jason... Keep saving money!"

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I have seen Blowup several times, but I guess I never looked close enough to notice Page and Beck were in the band.

It's a strange scene. The crowd stares dispassionately, not responding to anything - including the music and each other - until Beck throws his trashed guitar into the crowd and they all go crazy.

Wow, Owl, that IS neat Tippi's an impressive lady, too.

Blowup is as much a historically significant film as it is a good film. You sorta had to be there.

Not to sound pedantic, but I've been watching this series on Netflix called THE STORY OF FILM: A JOURNEY ... I don't know the background of this series, but its one of the best I've seen in a long while. For those who are not familiar with some of these 1950s, 1960s, 1970s films by "the masters," it would be a good primer on why they are notable, why Criterion has chosen their films. ... The series is also darned entertaining, at least to me.

Awesome, you've had some great luck there. I opted to get the Studio Canal version, because I did not want to pay some outrageous price to get an OOP disc, even though in this case the transfer on the Criterion is clearly superior.

They originally wanted The Who for that scene, but they declined. Pete Townshend was notorious back then for smashing his guitar and amp at the end of the show. When the Yardbirds were substituted instead, Antonioni asked Beck to smash his guitar. If you look close you can see it's a cheap instrument, not a Fender or Gibson.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle Blu-ray REVIEW

The film: There isn't much that can be said that hasn't already been said. This film is indeed one of the best from the '70s. Terrific style and great performance by Robert Mitchum (quite possibly his best).

The presentation: The transfer comes from a pre-existing master, but the film looks good. It looks a bit dated, but there are no traces of recent distracting enhancements (degraining/sharpening). My score is 3.75/5.00.

Definitely recommended.

On a side note, I would like to encourage you to pick up this release (see below). Really, really good documentary about Boston's underworld and one of its biggest stars.

I'm glad my rant about masterpieces was good for some thoughtful posts.

Again, I believe it's singular. Directors like Kurosawa or Bergman, for example, left us with a lot of great movies, but each may only have 1 best film/masterpiece. That's up to you to decide which are their bests.

I understand believing in this definition means any director, good or bad, may have his/her masterpiece or best work. That's why Tommy Wiseau was born.

Even though it's only April 5, and we have almost nine months left to go in 2015, I am officially bestowing my Find Of the Year Award on you. Congratulations! That's really incredible ...

Yeah, seriously. Every time I see something like that used in a store it's a place where someone who works there knows how to look at ebay and thus it's priced even higher than Amazon marketplace.

My find of the year was this on ebay for $3.50 shipped. There was no photo or description, so I had my doubts on what would arrive, but it came in perfect shape.

Have we ever figured out why there is no Hou Hsiao Hsien in the collection? Some weird rights issues?

I love how in the link Amazon advertises 'Trade in Your copy for up to $1.00' and right below it shows 'Buy used from $199.99'

I added the following to my collection today with Movie Trading Company's buy 2 get 1 free Easter sale

I noticed that Slacker and Blow Out both say they include an "extra" film, It's Impossible to Learn to Plow By Reading Books and Murder a la Mod, respectively.

Has anybody watched these and can comment? are they full feature length films in 1080p?

It was actually behind the counter, on a "ready to be put on the shelf" cart. I asked the guy that worked there if I could please see it, expecting the price to be ridiculous. Much to my surprise it was only priced at $10.00 as well as Bottle rocket and The Seventh Seal. I picked all three up for $30.00 before tax.

I came across a used copy of Yojimbo yesterday, so I decided to finally upgrade my DVD. After I bought a defective copy of The Seventh Seal a few weeks back, I've started checking for bronzing and looking at the IFPI numbers on most of the used Criterion discs I buy now. I didn't see any bronzing on this one, but I saw that it had a Sonopress IFPI number (LB42). Has anyone had any problems with disc degradation on Yojimbo?

I've seen all three of those films, but only the extra film on Slacker, and I actually didn't particularly care for it. I'm a fan of Linklater, but I was highly disappointed by everything that is that release.

To think that the guy who made the Before Trilogy, Boyhood, and Dazed and Confused made something like Slacker. Yuck.
