The one Criterion box set I'd love to see released. I'm still waiting Arrow Academy to release A Generation and Kanal since they've already released Ashes and Diamonds a few years ago.

Would love to see Polanski's The Tenant and/or Knife in the Water finally get a blu-ray release.

Although there are many films I would like Criterion to release, one film I do hope makes it's way into the catalogue is Croupier with Clive Owen. A film that was initially ignored by the UK critics and was then re-appraised when the film became an art house hit in the US.

+1. The dvd is real crappy too--not even anamorphic. I even like Hodges/Owen's next film, I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, which was panned by some.

I would hope for The Tree of Life, but I'm almost sure now that the clue didn't refer to this one.
Wouldn't make sense to release The Tree of Life sense the current bluray is excellent and packed with extras.

New World would make more sense from many points including financial.

Most people seem to think that if Criterion releases TTOL it will be because they have an extended/alternate version of the film to release.

(Also, not sure many would find a 30min behind the scenes and a theatrical trailer to be considered "packed with extras")

"packed with extras"?
It has only an extra and a trailer.

Anyway, I just want a Criterion BLuray (with a great designed menu, better cover and more extras) and I'm sure many do too.
I don't understand why many people ask for Criterion editions of already released films but when someone mentions The Tree of Life, everyone says it's already been released.
Criterion then shouldn't have released Tootsie, because there is an excellent European Region Free Bluray. But did anyone say anything?
(sorry, hope you're not offended. It just comes up every time I or someone else mentions The Tree of Life)

Agree on the extras but i actually find the Fox menu to be okay, lately criterion menus are only a still image and sometimes not even music on the background, but at least the usability is the same.

Actually it would be a shame if Criterion released all of Mallick's films (it seems as it's heading that way) and left The Tree of Life out.

And using the same excuse for not releasing Tree of life, if The New World Bluray doesn't include the theatrical cut then I could say there's no reason of releasing it too, since there is a great European Region Free Bluray already.

Tree of Life is more deserving than To The Wonder tbh - but the To The Wonder release is a big ugly mess, so Criterion needs to fix that haha

I changed my syntax if you want to change it in your quote too.
I thought that I was a bit incomprehensible. I'm not sure.

edit: Why do you say that about To The Wonder Bluray? What's wrong with the release?
Still haven't seen the film..

Just very very ugly artwork lol looked like they were inspired by The Thin Red Lien Criterion design but it just looks silly and the typography is ghastly! lol.

Just me being fussy about packaging lol!

Actually there are 3 different cuts of The New World, maybe it could be one of those 2 blu-ray releases with everything on it, i am not totally sure which is the director's preferred one, i thought it was the longest one.

I think Malick could edit his film forever and never have a preferred version :P

Criterion should just give us the ultimate The New World set and give us every cut

I would love a commentary track from Malick though discussion his changes and reasonings... oh well lol

The reason I don't see it is because the video would be identical. Both would use the 4K restoration, so there would be no visual upgrade on Criterion's part, only supplements. Remember, they were given the option of releasing The Silence of the Lambs on blu and declined since the MGM disc used most (if not all) of their extras. So the only thing they would've been able to upgrade was the PQ, and they felt it wasn't enough of an upgraded "package" to warrant spending the money on it.

Same could hold true of Spartacus. Typically the Criterion uses a different transfer or director's cut as opposed to the regular disc. As long as Universal does right by the 4k restoration, I don't see a Criterion release being that important — again, other than the extras, and there's no telling what would even be included on the Uni release at this point.

I think it's one of the greatest films of all time, but I can understand and appreciate the objections to it being given a Criterion release given that the existing disc is A/V perfect (and as great a fan I am of Malick I'm not sure that supplements are the way forward for this film). Granted, this is all moot if an eventual* Criterion release is centred around a different cut of the movie.

As it stands a custom Criterion cover would seemingly suffice, given it's that all-important "C" that seems to be desired!

* For what it's worth I do actually think TOL will eventually come to Criterion, either in it's theatrical cut or in some other form. Hell, an idea might be for Criterion to wait and release it alongside Voyage Of Time.
