the whole Studio Canal U.S. collection has just been a flop IMO and S/C has probably lost a ton of money ending their licensing deal with Criterion like they did. bad business move.

I did import the UK Hoffmann disc and it looks as great as you can imagine. worth every penny.
Well I hope Scorsese is a fan of Peeping Tom as well. That sorely needs a Criterion release as well. Oops, just read he does the intro on the import disc.

Peeping Tom is one of the Criterion discs that went out of print when they lost the rights to a bunch of Studio Canal titles in 2010. Incidentally I saw Scorsese and Thelma Schoonmaker do a post-film Q&A at a screening of Peeping Tom a few years ago.

I wish that Criterion would release another 1930s horror film along the lines of Island of Lost Souls. There are still a few gems out there that were not released by Universal.

I'm pretty sure The Tales of Hoffmann is also StudioCanal, and the DVD was out of print. That makes these rumors of an upgrade interesting. The Tati box could have been a breakthrough to get some of these titles back, or so I'm hoping. If they got the rights back, I'm pretty sure Criterion would upgrade both in short order.

The Tati Box was from pressure from Tati's estate, not from StudioCanal itself.

But, there's a pretty good chance that Schoonmaker (who I believe represents the estate) would make a similar push for a Criterion release. So who knows?

My predictions:

-The War Trilogy
-The Apu Trilogy
-My Beautiful Laundrette
-Blue is the Warmest Color
-Inside Llewyn Davis
-Bicycle Thieves

Absolutely desperate for Mulholland Drive, though I doubt it'll be announced today.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for, that since the Tati estate was able to get this through and the Hoffmann rumors, that maybe the entire StudioCanal ordeal will be placed in the hands of the estate(s) or living filmmakers. I admit that its a lot of wishful thinking on my part since they said at the Wexner talks that they weren't coming back soon. The answer was ambiguous and things can change, so like you said, who knows?

I've pretty much given up on it. I feel we're heading for an Eraserhead-sized wait.

I don't remember seeing a clue for it on the newsletter cover (or was that not everything coming out this year?)

There was an alleged memo from Lynch to Criterion going around a while back. It had Lynch's notes as to how to present his film on video.

Didn't Criterion also hint their would be more Lynch at that recent chat on stage? when they spoke about more WB and Malick? Oh and Decalogue.

As I said in previous post, didn't Criterion make a deal with WB or something?

Nothing from Criterion, but the article that reported it was coming mentioned La Dolce Vita and Time Bandits. Unless I'm mistaken, both were released fairly shortly after and both without official Criterion hints.

regarding After Hours, it seemed to have been hinted at in the NYE drawing at least many believe that was the title.

I know Scorsese was working on a remaster for After Hours during the same time they were prepping King of Comedy so if WB doesn't want to release it please Criterion. Sick of watching DVD of this film
