Me too. Colonel Blimp is a narrative tour de force.

BUT my favorite P&P's are I Know Where I'm Going! and A Canterbury Tale, followed by A Matter of Life and Death.

Also worth noting that Powell's The Edge of the World has been released on blu by BFI and is well worth picking up.

edit: Oh, Edge of the World already mentioned! Yes, more people go buy it.

He commented on this in my Tree of Life thread to show that Criterion does double clues with newsletter hints too. Keep hope alive

Maybe, just maybe, her set will come out on BD!

"I detest the world. I want to be seen by you, and you alone."

I had the sudden urge to watch The Earrings of Madame de... yesterday. One of my all time favorite tragic romances. I upgraded to the blu-ray disc at last summer's B&N sale despite the reviews. Perhaps my expectations are lower for older films, but I've been more disappointed from newer films where I know the transfers could definitely look better than they do. On my 32 inch screen tho the flaws were only intermittently distracting. Have I seen better and should it look better? Absolutely, but unwatchable, not at all.

The movie is wondrous. Sumptuous and sublime direction by Max Ophüls. That dance sequence is one swoon worthy montage, and more than deserving of its legendary status. Cool to see the film's costume design was nominated for an Oscar, but lost out to Edith Head's work on Sabrina which I also just rewatched. It was Head's sixth Oscar in six years. Judging by the number of collections this title is in it seems most people have avoided the disc, and if people are still afraid to purchase the blu-ray I strongly encourage those who have yet to see it seek out the dvd or watch it in iTunes or Hulu. It's one of the essential films in the collection.

Hopefully. But if she's discussing her LA work then that probably means a new set with Uncle Yanco, Black Panthers, LIONS LOVE (...AND LIES) and Mur Murs.

If it was a double clue, then Richard Linklater's Waking Life is still a better fit than The Tree of Life.

Default Juliet of the Spirits

I bought a 'very good' copy of Juliet of the Spirits this morning for $7.98. I know nothing about this movie other than that it is a Fellini title. I didn't even know it was a color film when I pulled the trigger.

Looking forward to it, though, because other than one viewing of La Dolce Vita ages ago, I haven't seen anything from Fellini.

is JotS any good?

Nights of Cabiria was my first. Sadly OOP now though. I love 8 1/2, but it's not for everyone, and I'm not sure it's a good starting point. Of what's available, I'd say La Dolce Vita

Fantastic. There's this set in France that's DVD only that would make a welcome addition to Criterion.

I've got this box-set, which collects her complete oeuvre. That'd be the dream Criterion upgrade, but would be a huge undertaking (again, the French set is only DVD).

8 1/2 didnt really click for me until recently. The film that turned me on to Fellini in a big way was Roma, tho agree that La dolce vita is probably the best starting point in the collection.
