That was a pretty decent little film. Nicolas Cage's comparably impressive acting, Fairuza Balk in a police uniform, and even some iguana POV camera shots. Everything necessary for a movie.

What a double bill, right? Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant is a real seedy, hopeless, ugly kick in the stomach while Herzog takes it to the present time and has a carnival with it. Taking into consideration what has been going on the past year concerning police in America, this is an oddly unsettling film for me. There's a lot of "haha, wait why am I laughing at this?" in it, particularly due to Cage's performance but also because of the surreal aspects of it.

I don't believe so. There's a 40% off BDs in June, at the least.

I think the B2G1 has ended right before the Criterion sale for the past few years (with a year famously having a one hour overlap between the two sales).

I just got back from Avengers: Age of Ultron at the theater down the street.

Julie Delpy (the Three Colors trilogy, the Before trilogy) has a minor, but cool and memorable role.

This is yet another example of rare indie street credibility in these movies, since Jenny Agutter and Harry Dean Stanton have appeared in them as well.

I noticed her cameo, as well. Hopefully we'll get a Black Widow origins film.

Funny you should say that, as I saw her name in the end titles, and couldn't for the life of me remember her in the film.

(I saw it earlier today, too. In fact, I was at the 8:00am showing at my local cattleplex. I was rather taken aback that they'd start that early, but I suppose it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise.)

I have not seen Ulysses' Gaze yet. Roger Ebert gave it a whopping 1 star out of 4, but that won't stop me from checking this one out! Thanks.

Woo-hoo! I get to go see Wim Wenders' new documentary The Salt of the Earth tonight! Has anyone seen it?Sebastião Salgado is one of my favorite photographers, so this should be a good one.

It's playing up north in my state but I don't really feel inclined to go.

I'll probably give it a rental when it's released on home video.

However, I'm sure there are plenty of reasons that could have delayed the release... one of them not being an "accidental announcement." There have been other movies announced previously on Criterion's site without finalized artwork and with no change to their release date. It's possible that some unforeseen circumstances arose that caused Criterion to make the decision to push the release date back. Under the Disc Features section there is the "More!" part of unannounced features, which could have something to do with the delay. "More!" could just be a new interview or two that have now been rescheduled due to the current schedules of cast/crew that were involved in the film. The only way to really find out, though, is to try contacting Criterion for information.
They also removed the spine number, so some have speculated that they just want a sexier spine number for this Wes Anderson release.

They pushed back Tootsie last year by a couple months. It does happen, and they don't always give an explanation as to why.

Wasn't Tootsie's pushback because there were too many movies released in one month and not in another?

I don't have Repo Man, but I think the other two look excellent. I was quite pleased when I watched Scanners in January.

Indeed. Fantastic pictures, the both of them.

wow!
Such rating for a film that won the Jury Prize at Cannes?
I wonder what does he think of other Angelopoulos films.

It's more likely delayed due to some feature they need more time to implement. I think there's a *light* possibility they will be releasing Grand Budapest Hotel at the same time (judging on the fact Budapest's price dropped so quickly that it may have already reached pretty much the maximum audience of its life as the current version). It's more likely just some other feature or something boring rather than anything though.
I don't know... Criterion did announce it with no cover-art, so it probably was not ready. So this seems like an easy guess. It takes time to print the copies. So even a small delay could set it back. Then again, maybe supplemental materials are still being worked on too.

No, it was pushed back so they could add a new interview with Dustin Hoffman.

Given they have repeatedly changed cover art closer to release and this has never been a problem, I feel very confident that it's something other than the cover art.

Good question. Ebert obviously had a beef with this movie by his though, calling him arrogant and self-important. I searched online and was unable to find any other reviews Ebert wrote of Angelopoulos. Didn't realize Theo Angelopoulos died in a motorcycle accident in 2012.

4 films of his have been released on Japanese BLurays.
I think Criterion should at least release 1!
There is no Greek movie in the collection and surely there are some to choose from, either Angelopoulos films, or some older ones that have been nominated for Oscars and Palme D'ors.
I hate to think that it may be a rights issue!

I have seen only one Angelopoulos film, Landscape in the mist.
For a first viewing it was quite good. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. It was of course very beautiful aesthetically.

That's quite cool, excited even more about this.. if that's even possible. I'm trying to pick a good time to see it, was going to try a first saturday showing, but the wife wants to go and she had to work. Plus season tickets to our local minor league baseball team complicates things.

And bringing this back to Criterion, our team is partially owned by Bill Murray. He's been at almost every game this season, and even sat down in my seat when I got up to get a hotdog. It was pretty cool. When our friend went to check his ticket because he was in out seat, he turned and joked and said, "these are good seats, really comfortable." I met him last year, he's a great guy.
