The new 4K restoration of The Third Man is coming in Blu in July (not yet at Criterion, but it may happen too):

Has Criterion ever re-released on the same format, an updated version of a film?

I also remember the remastered DVD set of Yojimbo and Sanjuro coming significantly before the blu-ray.

Every time they upgrade an existing DVD to Blu don't they also plop the new transfer onto an upgraded DVD?

That they've pulled the spine number is the thing that makes me think it's something more than cover art that's amiss.

I can't remember the last time they pulled a spine number. Even with Grand Illusion, which was delayed for 18 months after announcement, they reserved the spine spot (which was all the more impressive given the importance of its number!).

So I was just updating my Criterion collection online at criterion.com, and when I added my recent presents (Eating Raoul, Odd Man Out, Two-Lane Blacktop) I realized I had hit 90 releases. Couldn't believe it, especially since most of them have come in the last 2 years (thanks to BN membership/sales, and Criterion sales).

Just had to share.. especially since 90 doesn't look like that much on my shelve.

Actually most artwork is done in either InDesign or Illustrator, Photoshop is pretty bad for this sort of stuff, and a tad amateurish lol.

Congrats, you must make number 100 a special one. I need to update my list, both here and on Criterion.com

I think Criterion should at least release 1!
There is no Greek movie in the collection and surely there are some to choose from, either Angelopoulos films, or some older ones that have been nominated for Oscars and Palme D'ors.
I hate to think that it may be a rights issue!

I have seen only one Angelopoulos film, Landscape in the mist.
For a first viewing it was quite good. I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. It was of course very beautiful aesthetically.
Isn't Costa-Gavras a Greek filmmaker? We have 4 of his films in the Criterion Collection.

Independent, so it all depends on if any of your local theaters are interested in booking them.

He can also be considered as a French filmmaker: he lives in France, speaks French, has the French nationality for years in addition to the Greek one.
So I don't know how he has to be counted...

And for example, I think French people sees him as French at first thought (at least that's my first thought often about him )
