If you don't like Japanese movies, then I'd recommend Wings of Desire and The Leopard.

If you can still find any of the OOPs, then I'd suggest getting those before they are unavailable. I belive the OOPs are The Third Man and Pierrot Le Fou
Thanks for the advice. Been wanting to see Yojimbo and Sanjuro. I haven't seen too many films by Kurosawa but the ones I have I've really enjoyed. I was also thinking of getting Wings of Desire, I had it preordered when it was coming out on Blu-Ray but ended up canceling it. Never heard of The Leopard.

The film deals with the class structure of Italy. In that way it's similar to The Grand Illusion.

Black Adder was funny, the last 2 series in particular, the one from Napoleon times and the WW1. I enjoy Mr. Bean, always have. Another good funny series with him was The Thin Blue Line.

The Leopard is a great deal esp during this current Barnes sale. I couldn't wait for the sale at all. It was worth every cent the day I got it. Even the menu looks impressive. I was floored how great the HD transfer is compared to my old DVD set.

the audio commentary is really informative also. It includes a Making of that is just as interesting.

Sorry about that....

Well, with you gave me, I would suggest the following:

Bergman, I highly recommend getting the two box sets, Fanny & Alexander and Scenes from a Marriage and some of his single DVD's available from Criterion. But it depends if you really like Bergman. There are some people who love his work and some who can't get into it.

If you enjoy "Grand Illusion", I can easily recommend "Rules of the Game" but once again, I enjoy Renoir's work and that DVD is wonderful and also "The River". "The Lower Depths" has two films by Renoir and Akira Kurosawa (which is the better version in my opinion). I have yet to buy Renoir's "Stage & Spectacles", so I can't comment on that one.

I'm not into films like "Insomnia" or "Repulsion", so I'll leave it to others to recommend titles similar to it.

I am tempted in upgrading "The Leopard" to Blu...in fact, I had like six or so Blu-rays and the rest of the Kurosawa, Ozu and Bergman DVD's to complete what I have in the collection in my B&N cart but ....I'm opting in getting "Berlin Alexanderplatz", "Paul Robeson", "Postwar Kurosawa" and the Eclipse series of Samuel Fuller instead. It's a hard decision but mainly I think I'm going to go for it because those sets are typically expensive.

My guesses:

HAUSU
ANTICHRIST
FOLLOWING
THE DARJEELING LIMITED or VIDEODROME

WILDCARD:

NIGHT OF THE HUNTER would save the month (Breathless was quick to be announced after newsletter, so this could too.)

HAUSU!!!!

Can't wait for this!!

Well, since Wes is liked well by the internet-loving set, and only one of his films has been released - it would make sense that the internet-savvy crowd may throw many Anderson films up for consideration.

You mean the worst movie ever made about David Bowie that isn't about David Bowie?

Terrible film that borders on being unwatchable.

Same to Hedwig...

I love you.

Guys

I dont have any criterion release blus so far and was planning to pick-up the following from the B&N sale. I have seen a only a few of these before. Wanted to know what you guys think about these movies. I did read the reviews and various articles before forming the final to-buy list. Any feedback is appreciated.

Che (Seen it and absolutely loved it)
Gomorrah (Seen it once in a crappy dvd.. dint like it then .. trying to re-visit it)
Revanche
Everlasting Moments
The Last Emperor (Seen it years back .. I hardly remember)
Hunger
Days of Heaven
In the realm of senses (Sen and liked it)

Is there anything else that is absolutely a must-watch am missing ? I know tastes differ but this will be a good starting point to consider the movie.

The Leopard is the best criterion blu-ray out there right now IMO, at least in terms of recent releases.

Days of Heaven is my favorite on your list. The 400 Blows, the Wages of Fear, 8 1/2, and Yojimbo are all excellent Criterion Blu-rays that aren't on your list. You could ask 20 different people and get 20 different answers.

Thanks for the suggestion. From the ones you mentioned, 8 1/2 seems to be a widely popular suggestion. Will add that to my to-buy list. Yojimbo on the other hand, I havent seen it before but a B&W jap movie .. am not sure whether I wold enjoy it
