Agree, not a very good trailer, but to be fair, the one from This Must be The Place didn't gave me any reason to see it, and was very surprised by the film, it has an amazing cinematography by Luca Bigazzi, after checking IMDB it seems he works pretty much on all Sorrentino films including this one, so there is still hope.

So in the new year drawing, in addition to Two Days, one Night, Before Trilogy and I've heard also possibly Brighter Summer Day, it was also a clue of Day for Night, they are really packing these drawings.
Also Moonrise Kingdom although that also involves other part of the drawing. |

So, I guess the best bet would be to have it restored at Bologna like The Conformist, then Criterion or other labels can use that master for their own Blu-ray. I wonder when, though. |

Any fans? I liked Carlos a lot, but was pretty indifferent about Summer Hours. I really enjoyed Clouds of Sils Maria, which was enough to motivate me to seek out more of his work. The only other work of his I'd seen was his segment in Paris Je t'aime.
I picked up copies of Irma Vep and Clean for cheap, and have Bording Gate and Something In The Air on order. I'd love to get an English friendly copy of HHH: A Portrait of Hou Hsiao-Hsien, but those are super expensive. Anything I'm missing? Any Demonlover fans? Is his earlier work worth seeking out? |

I've always been a huge fan of the 1960 Godard film, Breathless, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of seeing it on a big theater screen last year.
I decided, however, to give the 1983 remake a chance today, and I'm glad that I did. While it does not hold a candle to the original film, it's still plenty engaging. Richard Gere and, especially, Valérie Kaprisky are endlessly watchable. The soundtrack, which includes the blazing cover of Jerry Lee Lewis's "Breathless" by one of my favorite bands, X, is the perfect touch. I won't go so far as to say that it's a great film, but it's 1980s awesomeness across the board, and I've seen worse remakes. |

It's easy to look back and wonder why people were reluctant to give Welles money to make films. Let's not forget the man was not a saint. What I wouldn't give to hear some of the conversations he had with studio suits and producers over the years.
The biggest disappointment with Welles was he never found a steady source of funding to make movies. I think the current environment would be much better for his style. Investors would line-up once he proved his profitability. Just make a little bit of dough, never lose money and they keep coming back. Woody Allen has done this for decades. |
