Well, sort of.

It's a Columbia title and Criterion has a pretty good relationship with Sony. And Twilight Time was asked about it a couple years ago and said they weren't going to be releasing it as it had been licensed to somebody else.

At the time it seemed pretty obvious that somebody else was likely Criterion but since then The Lady from Shanghai (another Sony/Columbia title) was released first by TCM (yes, the cable channel) and then by Mill Creek.

So who knows anymore.

I was just thinking about that yesterday. Which probably kills any chance of it being announced tomorrow.

It does seem like a pretty likely candidate though.

Was it explicitly ruled out or is it being discounted because The Fisher King was announced?

People often go overboard (hahahaha, boat clue, boat joke, geez, I'm hilarious) with the dual clue wishful thinking but this one has a fairly clear demarcation between the two clues in the single tableau.

Plus, that freaking eye is bang on. It's pretty unmistakable.

So many people have a crush for Ghost World.

I'm happy with Two days one night, Llewyn Davis or New world.

When that was first floated (bwaaaaaahahah, seriously, I kill me) it seemed a little iffy but not terribly outside the realm of the reasonable. But these images are hard to ignore.

That image, which to me is a dead ringer for the eye in the water:

Plus, they thanked Criterion for helping release the film theatrically:

Quote:
Big thanks to Criterion for allowing us to screen the film, which is not scheduled for American release until mid-2015.
http://otakon.tumblr.com/post/931310...-eyes-if-youve

Plus, this comment was posted in March on the trailer at YouTube:

Quote:
The filmmaker recently visited Criterion offices in NYC to presumably film/record bonus material, and it was hinted at in their annual New Year's teaser drawing. It has also been hinted at by one of Criterion's top people when he did a press conference at a film festival recently.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xMcPUgOhdKE

Murakami also has a page at Criterion's site:

http://www.criterion.com/people/123008-takashi-murakami

So I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't happening

I have yet to get all the way through Hausu and I've only seen the trailer for Jellyfish Eyes but the latter seems at least as good a fit as the former.

And it's not like 'Criterion worthy' in carved in stone anywhere anyway.

Their mission statement talks about important contemporary and classic films from around the world and that's obviously great but that doesn't mean there's absolutely no room for whimsy.

It was never even on my radar but I have to say, based on some of the visuals alone I'm kind of curious about it now.

I was just reading the booklet of The Phantom Carriage, and noticed Victor Sjostrom is the director of The Wind (1928), i had always heard that film is a masterpiece, but never connected it with the director, anybody know if there is any change of it receive a Criterion release? (seems the only release available in DVD is from Spain) they desperately need more silent films in my opinion.

It's controlled by Warner, so chances are slim. Not impossible, but sliim.

Warner will license anything, if they're shown enough money.

One more addition to what I posted above about Jellyfish Eyes, Murakami has a page up at Criterion. It appears to be recently added, but not completely sure.
