Hausu, most definitely. Antichrist seems a sure thing, too. The clue for Antichrist specifically said "this fall", which is rare cause the clues don't normally give any sort of timeline whatsoever. If the laserdisc rumor is true, I am seriouslyy hoping that "Night of the Hunter" is one of them. Having glanced at that list, I'm gonna throw my wild card vote towards "The Game". I recall this being mentioned as an upcoming Criterion release, plus it fits into the "once on laserdisc, but never dvd" aspect.

[QUOTE=CassavetesGodard;3499148]So if there is 2 tomorrow from laserdisc, I went throughout the Criterion laserdiscs and came to these that have been rumored by Criterion:

The Night of the Hunter
The Game
(David Fincher)

great minds, quaid.

So I was bored, and I noticed that the Criterion site has a Facebook "Like" link for all of their title pages. So I went through one by one and (hopefully, if everything took) "Liked" every one, including individual spines, box sets, Eclipse sets, Merchant Ivory discs and pre-orders. The only one I couldn't get was Double Suicide, which Facebook disallowed probably because of the title. It looks like I was first on some of them as well.

My mouse-clicking finger got a workout, man!

Yeah, I pulled out all of the rumored titles. These 2 would be great for what I think is going to be a boring month of annoucements (they would help), but I would really like to have that New Hollywood boxset announced.

I thought this might help. Criterion set up "Themes" on their website, and here's a link to the "Cult" section. Not very many straight up horror films, but definitely horror elements within many of them. Personally, i feel "Repulsion" has a very psychological horror-ness to it, and if you can convince someone that "Man Bites Dog" is an actual documentary, it could really get under their skin.

My last guesses before the announcements tomorrow:

The Night of the Hunter
The Game
Hausu
Antichrist

and if a 5th title:

Darjeeling Limited

CG, I fear that if the "New Hollywood" boxset never comes out, we just might not see you around anymore...

jokes aside, I would love to see it announced as well. hopefully it will not bring with it a "need to take out a loan" price tag.

if that rumor is indeed correct, that should mean that 3 of the new releases will have been originally on laserdisc, one will just be a restoration of a previous dvd. maybe we'll get six titles?

If it's not announced, it won't be a big deal. But if it isn't, then Criterion listen to me:

Try your very best to please get Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie and Out Of The Blue. If you can get those out, forget that New Hollywood set.

Easy Rider is already out anyways. But you can't even get The Last Movie on VHS anywhere anymore.

someone on amazon.com would like to sell it to you for the low low price of $250! don't worry, it's a former rental too.

my point. A freakin' VHS for $250 (used rental).

Oh, maybe they can put out the doc that was filmed when he was making it too for a 2-disc Blu-ray of Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie. Wow! That would be a great day to see that.

That would be awesome! Rarely do you get to see a silent film on the big screen (unless it's a silent film festival) or college event.

I was hoping to see at the TCM Film Festival but of all of us in media that applied, very few were selected to attend. But man, if you have the opportunity to watch it on the big screen, that would be fantastic!

If you don't mind to share and mind me asking, I have been wondering, what is your job in fact? Are you talking about being a reviewer to this site, or do you have another job, and does Criterion give you free movies? Sorry for asking and you don't have to respond, I was just always curious as to why you have dvd versions of new films that came out on blu too, unless you got them for free.

Btw...Just saw Chris Galloway's review ala Criterionforum and saw his screencaps for the new Criterion Ozu DVD set. I can understand why it's on DVD but more surprised they didn't stick it in an Eclipse Series release. Makes me wonder how the Von Sternberg will be quality wise. Granted, I'm used to the film warping from silent films but this new Ozu set, I wonder how much damage there is throughout the entire film (or both films in the set). Even Criterion's Eclipse Series Silent Ozu's look better in comparison.

But I suppose for us Ozu fans...I guess we would pick it up anyways. I'm used to purchasing silents or older films with some film damage. I guess right now is the best time to pick it up via the current sale while at $19.99.

Yeah, I can see why those Ozu films didn't make it, and I am prob 100% sure Ozu on blu will come sooner rather than later (sooner being a year).

Hey CG, I have tests done on me for scientific research. It actually pays very well!

Seriously though...I write for an entertainment website.

Before I buy Che, does anyone know why Part One is "scope" and Part Two is "flat"?

It was done to fit the style of that specific part's way of storytelling. Soderbergh goes into it a bit on one of the documentaries. Either way, both parts look incredible and I highly recommend it.
