Overall it is a great month. Three great films Night and The City, Dressed To Kill and The French Lieutenant's Woman. For those that don't own these titles, or have never seen them before, it is a real treat.

For those of us in the U.K. Any guesses when Arrow will release Night and The City on their Academy label?

Maybe Day for Night will bring me back around to Truffaut.

Jules and Jim, The Last Metro, and The Soft Skin are all solid films, but I am not wowed by anything other than The 400 Blows.

Definitely in for Two Days, One Night - the best film of last year.

Not a bad month by any means. I'm in for:
Two Days, One Night
Day for Night
Dressed to Kill

I've seen Dressed to Kill but I wasn't in the best of moods so it's a blur to me. I might be open to Night and the City and The French Lieutenant's Woman. Need to do more research on both titles before throwing them into the budget.

Best month in a long time. No complaints whatsoever.

Per my tastes, August will be Criterion's strongest month since the April releases (I purchased 4 of April's), as I'll definitely be purchasing 3 of these:

Night and the City,
Day for Night, and
Dressed to Kill.

By contrast, I'm planning on purchasing 2 of May's releases, 1 of June's, and 2 of July's.

Dassin, Truffaut, De Palma in August... awesome!!! Great month!!!

There's plenty of room for improvement. The Arrow (and MGM) disc are from dated sources, and it shows. The new release being a 4K master, plus director approved? Using Criterion's own monthly theme, I imagine the difference will be night and day

Not a big month for me but DePalma's Dressed to Kill stands out for me as a must-buy.

Did anyone notice that the word "Night" is in 3 of these releases?

"Night and the City"
"Day for Night"
"Two Days, One Night"

Criterion must be in a nocturnal state of mind lately.

I could not be more excited! When I listed my personal choices for August after last month's announcements, I noted the following:

Aug 18: Night and the City (1950, Jules Dassin) – both the American and British versions on my release, each with a different original score (upgrade)

Well, I was two weeks off, but sure enough, we're going to get both the American and British versions of the film on the new blu-ray come August 4! I'm absolutely thrilled. I've waited decades to see the British version, which besides having a different musical score, is rumored to feature a different cut of the film. Score!

As for the rest of the announcements? I'm in for everything except the Eclipse series. For me personally, this is the most exciting month of new releases in ages. Woo-hoo!

"Along with the expected Jellyfish Eyes, my predictions are the following:

The Cure
The Brood
Two Days, One Night
The New World
Dressed To Kill "

Well, I got 2 out of 6 right. No After Hours, probably anopther pipe dream until Warners decides to finally release it.

It would be great if they could release Before Night Falls too!

Solid month, with Day For Night the undoubted highlight for me. Warner too. The Varda set is great too, but I already have the French set and I'm fairly certain they'll both be derived from the same masters.

Am I the only one who sees a resemblance between the cover art of Two Days and Plain Archive's release of Rust and Bone?

Speaking of the Day/Night theme .. since we know Wes Anderson was pushed back.

Could September be potentially a SUN and MOON theme?

Before Sunrise
Before Sunset
Before Midnight
A Brighter Summer Day
Moonrise Kingdom

Hmmm ..

I think I posted this in another forum. If not, my apologies...

with 3 Twilight Time titles, the Artificial Eye releases, and the CC releases, there are only a handful of Truffaut films not on blu-ray. very awesome! he has become the director equivalent of Burt Lancaster who has darn near everything on blu.

Are they cheeky enough to do the same gimmick twice?
