In the second film Che Guevaras world shrinks. Hes older, alone, sick and the film is basically a tragedy. The aspect ratio is just a "tool" to strenghten the dramaturgy. |

The Criterion twitter message mentioned that two of October's BD releases would be films the CC released on laserdisc, but not DVD. That would be beyond amazing if they bought back the Criterion release rights for the original "Halloween." It would be perfect for October, and that film is definitely in need of a new BD edition (the previous release was incorrectly color corrected without the assistance of director of photography Dean Cundey).

I love Che, but the Motorcycle Diaries really gets more of a hold on me emotionaly. Its really a journey and story of South-America, the different cultures and people living there. As me myself have roots in South-America it really gets my attention. But as a stand-alone film and fictional story its more emotional than Che. Thats what films are about, emotions.

I myself was skeptical about Revanche. But picked up the copy yesterday and saw it last evening. I really liked it .. now that my remorse is gone .. if you ask me whther I would watch it again in the near future .. maybe not. IMO, like any other CC release, this movie is worth it.

If you consider the emotional factor, which for me is a huge factor than I would say "Motorcycle Diaries". Other than that, both are excellent films. I would say Motorcycle Diaries is like a prequel to Che.

Seven Samurai (dvd now, getting a blu-ray release this year) Yojimbo (dvd and blu-ray) Sanjuro (dvd and blu-ray) Kagemusha (dvd and blu-ray) Ran (out of print Criterion dvd and Studio Canal blu-ray) Rashomon High and Low The Hidden Fortress Throne of Blood Ikiru Stray Dog The Bad Sleep Well Red Beard Drunken Angel If you want to know which ones are the most representative of his work, I'd say Seven Samurai, Ran, and Rashomon for the samurai flicks, and for his contemporary films, I'd say High and Low, Stray Dog, and Drunken Angel. But really, all of his films are nothing short of great in my book, so it's not like you can really go wrong. Yojimbo, however, is a great starting point. It's short, sweet, and to the point and easily the most accessible film in his career. It spawned several remakes, including the Man with No Name trilogy of westerns from Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly) |

Question 1: How long does it take for B&N to ship my films? Ordered two days ago, still no shipping.
Question 2: Will the Breathless and Seven Samurai-releases be as amazing on Blu as they are on DVD. With the booklet, two- and three-disk and paper digipack? |

But as mentioned in a previous post, I look at the titles and if one is to ship in 1-2 weeks, I'm not going to do it. Only if it's available within 24 hours because I don't need one title delaying my shipment. Especially if there is a pre-order on there (which is the reason why I didn't order "Black Narcissus" or "The Red Shoes"). I notice a lot of the newer Blu-ray titles had shipping 1-2 weeks. As for "Breathless", I don't know. That booklet was nice on the DVD pack but I haven't seen a booklet that big from a Criterion release yet. So, far I noticed that MoC would get special sized Blu-ray cases like in "Une femme mariée". That book was huge. So, I guess we will find out because I'm sure many people want to know the same thng. |
