Ahh what a wonderful world we are in...

Step One, Throw Frontier Cable out....
Step Two, Get survey from Frontier so they can found out why they suck...
Step Three, Get $10 gift card for Amazon as a thank you for the survey...
Step Four, Buy Criterion Blu Dressed to Kill for less than $18 as a result.

If I had only known sooner....

Makes me want to bring them back only to throw them out again and again...

I've got my fingers crossed for Missing being the film hinted at in that clue. I'm on a real Costa-Gavras kick at the moment. I decided to check out a couple of his more recent films this week, starting with the Tom Berenger thriller Betrayed. I was sceptical going in, as it sounds very hokey, but I really enjoyed it, plus it's been given an extra kick of relevancy thanks to the nature it's opening section. I've got Mad City and Capital lined up too.

I'd love for it to be upgraded as well, with maybe new interviews. I had read somewhere that Z has a 4k resto coming so I'm kind of assuming CC is going to keep the ball rolling with his films on bd. Fingers crossed it's not too long of a wait.

Yeah, Z played at this year's Cannes in a new 4K restoration. I'm sure I read that all of his work was being restored.

Not all of it. 'Hanna K.' and 'Z' have been restored. 'Section Speciale' is on the latest list of CNC restorations and it's one of only a couple of his films I haven't seen yet as there's no current English-friendly edition or custom subtitles. Imo, his best films are 'Z', 'The Confession', 'State Of Siege', 'Missing', 'Le Couperet', 'Eden Is West' and 'Capital'. I'd love for Criterion to release any of his films though, but Cohen are also good bets. Could definitely see Cohen doing 'Le Couperet' and 'Eden Is West'. Gaumont have at least one of his 80s French films so they'll likely hit blu-ray at some point. I would really like to see his first two films get restored. Seen a poor quality dubbed version of 'The Sleeping Car Murders' and it was a lot of fun.

A couple of folks have mentioned Capital, which is out from Cohen. They've released Amen. as well. Both were released about a year ago.

Someone in a Criterion Facebook group that I follow posted this about the Barnes and Noble sale.

Quote:
I have read at some forums that there will be a 40% off sale 6/9/15. Normally the 50% off sale kicks off the July 4th weekend, If you are on their mailing list, there was a couple 20% coupon sent. Combine with 10% off for members, should still be a decent sale.
I checked here and a couple other places, but cannot find a thing. Anyone hear anything like this?

I'm sorry, what do you mean?
That there won't be a 50% sale but a 40% one?

No, there will be a 50% off sale in July. Usually around this time of year, Criterion has a different sale as well (sometimes it's buy 2 get the third free; or it could be 40% off).

Members get 10% off of almost everything in store, plus there are some 20% off coupons out right now (expiring 6/21), so if there is going to be a 40% off sale in June, then members will also get that 10% off plus any coupons he or she may use.

I received two 20% off coupons by way of snail mail this past week. I've somehow miraculously managed not to use them. 40% off plus 20% off plus 10% off might be a good time to pull the trigger on the Batman TV series box set, since I'm covered pretty well with regard to Criterion boxes.

Thank you. The post had me worried there was some inside info about there not being a July sale this year.

You sometimes have to be careful with your math. %-off coupons sometimes work as % off of the remaining price, not concatenated on the MSRP or listed price.

Example, I get a Target Pharmacy Rewards 5% off card 2-3 times a year, and can use it with my Target Red card (5% off almost anything). But the 5% is off the price AFTER the first card, so it is NOT 10% off. It's effectively about 9% off depending upon $ amount. That's how it worked with my iPad Mini last fall.

YMMV depending upon the super-fine print.

As suspected, the Shawn/Gregory box-set is the three amarays collected together in an outer box.

Yeah, it's 40% off of the listed price, then 20% off of the remaining price, and then 10% off of the remaining price. That does not add up to 70% off of the listed price, but the combination of coupons is still a sweet deal.

I know this is not exactly a normal release but I'd like this or something like it to become the normal way they package box sets. It's probably not cost effective but I would've loved to see packaging like this for the Tati set.

So, you would rather have seven plastic Scanavo cases (one for each film) lined up side-by-side in a cardboard box... or, would you want multi-disc plastic cases so that all seven discs from the Tati set fit into maybe 3 or 4 cases? Either way, someone is going to complain about how much room the set would then be taking up on their shelves. You can't please everyone, unfortunately.

I'd be more concerned that this three film set was apparently shipped in a bubble mailer. Seems none the worse for it though.

What's the average time between the clue being posted on the newsletter and the announcement of the release of that movie?

Everyone was saying last month that the blue key was a sign that Mulholland Drive was in the pipeline.

...when will we know?
