Had a dream last night that Criterion announced a release of The Third Man from the new 4K restoration. Would be awesome if Studiocanal licensed it to Criterion, as I doubt Lionsgate will release it here.

I haven't reached that point of dreaming Blurays/releases in my sleep!

It was part of a bigger dream, where I was in a park, and there was a stack of newsletters on the grass, and inside were all of Criterion's announcements for that month. I could only recall The Third Man though. Quite random.

the chances of you getting a bad disc by way of a new purchase from a retail merchant are very slim to none.

Default In non-Criterion news:

Amazon.fr is currently having a sale on many of their Gaumont region-free blu-ray titles. I just purchased the following discs [/B] :

Le Plaisir (1952, Max Ophüls)
French Cancan (1954, Jean Renoir)
À nos amours (1983, Maurice Pialat)
Van Gogh (1991, Maurice Pialat)

The grand total for all four films including shipping was $53.62, which averages out to a little over $13 each. All of the films listed above received either "Highly Recommended" or "Very Highly Recommended" reviews from blu-ray.com and include English sub-titles.

For F sake Criterion, enough with those posters already. The essays are incredibly difficult to read.

They're terrible. Cheapens the package a bit too in my opinion.

Yeah i am trying to read all the booklets of the titles i have seen, but I've been trying to avoid those, at least the ones that fold like a brochure aren't as bad.

Oh, thanks.
I really hope so.
I don't remember if they issued new discs for old bad discs and circulated hem in the market.

No complaining here. I'm still glad a video distribution company such as Criterion is still providing supplementary reading material with their blu-ray discs. They (Criterion) still make quality products even though they've slimmed down on the paper.

Sorry, but I have no idea. I do know that the sale just started today as I was price-tracking all four of these titles.

I'm still reeling from my Criterion experience this weekend. I watched Don't Look Now for the very first time, and was completely blown away by everything about it: the performances of Julie Christie, Donald Sutherland, and Hilary Mason; the direction by Nicolas Roeg; the cinematography of Anthony Richmond; the score by Pino Donaggio; and (especially) the brilliant editing by Graeme Clifford. Every individual's contribution was outstanding, really, and the assembled film was like nothing I had ever seen ... a jigsaw in which the pieces might fit perfectly together in a variety of different ways, each possibility yielding a totally unique and equally fascinating puzzle. It's a film I already want to rewatch, one that I think will prove to be even richer with each subsequent viewing. The Criterion transfer is outstanding, and the package of supplemental features yields pleasure and insight in equal measure. This blu-ray will undoubtedly figure into my nominations for the Best Criterion Release of 2015! Thanks to everyone who recommended it when it was first announced.

I've no problem with the leaflets either. You can read the essays online too at Criterion.com.

I'm glad that you enjoyed this one. Don't Look Now is my favorite Nicolas Roeg film, and that's saying quite a lot.

I watched M for the first time yesterday (... great movie! ... have many supplements to go through yet). But I noticed how thick the accompanying booklet is compared to the current foldouts. The booklets were put together so well. Makes me sad that they're a thing of the past. (Sigh, but I do understand).
