That being said, I've never actually seen The Magician so I'll still be looking forward to it. You cant go wrong with more bergman and Sydow. How would you classify this movie? Is it anything like Seventh Seal and the Faith Triology?

Oh...... And I think that cover art looks amazing!
I think its one of his best films. I have never owned any edition of this film so I am excited but I would still love to see Wild Strawberries get the blu treatment.

The Magician and House have two of the best looking cover art I've seen yet from Criterion. Fantastic month all-around.

Disappointed the House release doesn't have this series of commercials by Obayashi as a special feature.

But seriously, anyone happen to know Japanese? On Imdb it say the original title of the special feature short film is "Emotion: densetsu no gogo = itsukamita Dracula". I'm curious of what the translation is.

I just had a friend of mine call me and tell me that this teen from Sweden is helping him with some work this week.
he just arrived in the US for the first time ever earlier in the week.
his last name--
Bergman.
that's right--Ingmar's grandson is working with my friend on some film job.
how crazy is that?
I told him to tell him about "The Magician" coming out on bd.

Great news about Paths of Glory. I've been waiting for that one for a while. I've added a few more Criterion's to my collection. Complete Monterey Pop, Gimme Shelter, and Walkabout.

I try to be pretty picky with the Criterion titles I buy. I try to see most of them but only buy the ones I know I'll revisit often. So far I only own 6 Criterion Blu-rays. Having said that there are 6 titles in Sept/Oct that I consider must own. I'm also on the fence on the 2 Powell Pressburger films in August. I'm going to have to get a second job to keep up with this. Oh well, too many good movies being released is the kind of problem I like to have.

Red Shoes and Black Narcissus are must buys, I know Best Buy will have both titles out early I can almost bet on it, but I have each title on reserve at my local Barnes & Noble for tuesday release. I even took the day off, I've been waiting over a year to see the restored version of Red Shoes.

Yeah on top of this amazing year so far (War Trilogy, von Sternberg silents, etc), we got Nov/Dec left that could include the New Hollywood Boxset, Night of the Hunter, and some Chaplins.

Best Criterion year ever.

Didn't know you could reserve pre-orders in store. Do you just order one with the cashier, just like if a title was out of stock? Or is there a way do it online? I would like to do that for the Guitry set coming out the 27th.

Definitely picking up Samurai, Paths of Glory and The Magaician... although I'm ecstatic to see more Bergman on blu... The Magician? Really? It's more of a minor work in his huge canon of films. I much more expected to see his bigger hits - Fanny & Alexander, especially, Wild Strawberries, Cries & Whispers, Autumn Sonata (which needs an enhanced transfer anwyay) or the faith trilogy before this.

1. The Magician is new to the dvd/blu collection.

2. Not every release is the director's "bigger hits" (Kagemusha before Seven Samurai. Pierrot le fou before Breathless). Plus The Seventh Seal is already out.

I'm happy about The Magician.

1. I doubt more Bergman happens this year.

2. I hope the New Hollywood set happens too. Rumored for November, so we'll find out Aug 15th.

3. Night Of The Hunter sould be out Nov/Dec (my money on Dec).
