Id take a guess and say we'd see The Brood and Haxan in October?

I'm not a huge fan of Richard Brooks. He misfired on Lord Jim, too.
I haven't seen In Cold Blood mainly because 2005's Capote did not do a thing for me. It doesn't really scream spine, but I'm at least happy to know that Leigh's The Graduate will be released.

Hopefully Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? will be right around the corner.

Nice to see all that Welles stuff mentioned. I just watched Magician this weekend (which I was actually pretty lukewarm about) and it made me want to dig into more Welles stuff.

I saw In Cold Blood knowing that it is a film based on a Truman Capote novel... I didn't know much about it beyond that. I thought it was a solid film and was a bit surprised when I later discovered that it has received middle of the road reviews on the web.

The Graduate is good. I don't need a CC release. I don't need a regular release either for that matter, but I know some love it.

I think it's really embarassing that there isn't any single Angelopoulos title in the Criterion collection so as Greece to at least have a representation.
His absence from Criterion is a real joke. I feel the same way about Sokurov too.

There are plenty of reasons why Angelopoulos does not have the same status as other 'long take' directors--I don't have time to go into them now--but let's just say that it's based on things that have little to do with talent.

His Girl Friday would make my year, honestly. Other than Warner announcing a Bogey/Bacall set, not sure anything else would make me more excited.

I love the Truman Capote book, In Cold Blood, and I love the film. That Blu-ray has somehow eluded my collection so far, though. I need to upgrade my old DVD.

I love The Graduate, but I'm happy with my existing Blu-ray until a better encode shows up.

My guesses for September:

Moonrise Kingdom
Burroughs: the movie
Jellyfish Eyes
BRD trilogy box set upgrade
My Own Private Idaho upgrade

I'd be pretty happy with that. Yeah.

If anyone was thinking of picking up a Blu-ray from B&N's website, you might want to think about it getting one today. They're currently 40% off anyway, but there's also a 20% off coupon code (BNDAD20) with free express shipping. The coupon ends today, though.

I'm wondering what other Warner films Criterion has on deck, now that DAY FOR NIGHT is coming. My guesses are BLOW-UP, DEATH IN VENICE, A MAN AND A WOMAN, McCABE AND MRS. MILLER, and RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY. I heard a rumor they had THE ASPHALT JUNGLE as well. I suppose any number of older films could fit the bill.

As for other films, the January 1 clue seemed to hint at TWO FOR THE ROAD and ONE TWO THREE...any further hints on those?

They could slip in a horror type title in end of Sept release date. I could swear one was dropped last Sept. instead of Oct.

I am hoping for some decent upgrades.

September last year was definitely horror-ier than October.

September:
Eraserhead
The Innocents
(MacBeth, Ali Fear Eats The Soul, Sundays with Cybele)

October
The Vanishing
(Tati, La Dolce Vita, My Darling Clementine, F For Fake)

Not yet :P I am being naughty and judging a film on its trailer! Besides I cant stand the guys art, its tacky and cheap and it really shows in what I have seen of the film.

Hey who knows, maybe it will surprise me and be amazing - I will obviously see when released and take back what I say if I do like it, but come on... it looks awful.

I don't usually judge a film on the trailer though Also it hasn't had the best reviews lol

Would rather Criterion released Digimon or Pokemon lol

I couldn't agree more on both points.

In Cold Blood is a great film, expertly directed by Richard Books (Looking for Mr. Goodbar.)

The Graduate is also a great film (ironically, both were released about the same time) but I am satisfied with my current blu-ray disc from MGM.
