With everything else this year, it's just not a must for me. Maybe in a B&N sale or if I have extra cash come October. But for now, no.

At least for Black Narcissus, the gentleman at the Media counter placed a preorder on the system for an in-store pick up on Tuesday. I checked with him and I didn't have to pay for it then or leave any money down. I pay for it when I pick it up.

The benefit of doing it this way is twofold. You get it on the realese date (even if you're a member...having it shipped to your home will not get it there on the release date), plus...you get to see if the case is in good shape, etc.

Here is what the rest of the year looks right now for me in terms of buying:

Three Silent Classics by Josef von Sternberg
Breathless blu
Charade blu
Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence blu
The Magician blu
Paths of Glory blu
Hausu blu

Rumored titles and not announced yet titles (New Hollywood, Chaplin, Night of the Hunter)

Machine Gun McCain blu
The Rocky Horror Picture Show blu
Any Kino releases that is of interest
some past releases (Flicker Alley's Chicago dvd, etc)

and if anything comes up, so that's alot to worry about. So prob won't be getting Seven Samurai, Darjeeling, Thin Red Line.

True that there is a lot of releases coming up. I only want Charade & Seven Samurai, the others will be added to my rental list.

I am still waiting for Killing Of A Chinese Bookie, the only bad thing of rentals, you need to be patient.

The only title I'm definitely buying on release day is Paths of Glory, as I'm a big Kubrick fan!

For those familiar with Wes Anderson films...would you say that Darjeeling or Bottle Rocket is the better film? The only film that I bought at the sale that I'm on the fence with is Bottle Rocket.

I really like the film, but wonder if it's worth keeping.

uhhh, I would say I like Darjeeling better, and this is from someone who isn't a fanboy of one of his films, though I would say Life Aquatic is one I would love to buy on blu.

i love Bottle Rocket, but i havent seen Darjeeling so i cant really compare. i understand other people not really enjoying Bottle Rocket as much, the humor definitely doesnt appeal to everyone but if you enjoy Andersons movies you should like it.

That depends... would you enjoy a film that is mainly about a boy and a white horse (White Mane) or film about a little wooden boat (Paddle To The Sea)?

It's hard to compare them. I think Bottle Rocket is funnier but Darjeeling is more mature and emotionally satisfying.

Here's my haul so far:

- 8 1/2
- Days of Heaven
- For All Mankind
- Gomorrah
- The Man Who Fell To Earth
- Mystery Train
- Paris, Texas
- Playtime
- Vivre sa vie
- Walkabout

$13 plus tax each.

And I picked up "Che" as a birthday gift from my dad to me (my birthday is on the 30th), since I didn't want to make him try and go to the store with coupons and try and get it for me at the best possible price. And then I'm just deducting what it cost from what I owe him for my car insurance payment this month, and then he'll wrap it up and give it to me.

So that's technically 11 so far. I might hold off until later in the sale and buy a few more, as there are some I still want to get, such as "The Leopard," "By Brakhage," and "Hunger," among others.

He probably used a membership (10% off) plus the :$5 off $20" member coupon for each title.

But seriously, anyone happen to know Japanese? On Imdb it say the original title of the special feature short film is "Emotion: densetsu no gogo = itsukamita Dracula". I'm curious of what the translation is.
It's something like "Emotion: Legendary Evening = Someday (I'll) See Dracula".

Darjeeling is the only Anderson film I've never seen. Amongst his other films I like Life Aquatic the most. That one I really do hope comes to Blu soon.

Is there any non-Criterion/indie/classic stuff you like? My tastes are pretty varied. I watch my Blu-Ray horror films as much as my Criterion films. I'm looking forward to buying films like the Back to the Future collection, Psycho, The Exorcist and Alien film collection on Blu as much as I am the big Criterion releases.

All the B&N's around me have been pillaged, blu-ray wise. I did manage to get Red Desert and Che, today. Other than those two, they didn't have any copies of the other titles I don't already own.

I did pick up a few more DVDs, though:
[Show spoiler]The 3 Films by Louis Malle set
The Friends of Eddie Coyle
Great Expectations
Oliver Twist
and The Essential Art House version of Lord of the Flies.

I plan to get The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus, next week. And I'm hoping to find an actual copy of the dual box of Yojimbo/Sanjuro. After that, I may wait for the Criterion sale in November before picking any more up for a while.
