certainly no-one can really be surprised at this point.
I mean once it reaches 4:30 cst. if they haven't announced I don't even check anymore. Criterion has issues for sure as far as just letting people know at an earlier time that the announcements will be delayed. kind of pathetic really. |

- leaflets, instead of booklets - dual disc editions - the "pressing" issue and their poor response to th issues that does not get mentioned enough in this thread. - average to poor customer service But yes us fans of the company that do not get defensive when someone criticizes them are whining. Uh huh... |

Not earth shattering of course, but I am legitimately baffled by what kinks would postpone announcements by one day. In the end the announcement is of little consequence to the release itself, obviously.
But... I mean, I just don't get it.... What are the kinks? They update extra listings all the time, so it's not that. Nor is it release date adjustments. Or cover art. These titles are 3 months away, so there can't be legal hurdles at this point. Anyone? It's kinda opening themselves up to criticism they don't need, especially when they say earlier that the announcements are coming today (with the Moonrise art preview) and then wait until the last minute to say they won't be coming today. Fan followings can be tricksy to navigate when expectations are pent up. |

As my friend said... Terrence Malick just couldn't decide what cut to use for Criterions release :P - hell he may have even stated a 5th cut last minute

Jesus, a whole lot of nothing in this post. But heres some logical reasoning anyways. - Leaflets: They could do what Arrow and 88 are doing and only put them in the first 1000 copies or do away with them altogether. Would you be more satisfied with that? Yeah leaflets in a lot of releases are disappointing but I'd rather have them than nothing at all. - Dual format: Was a cost cutting solution and actually a GREAT idea. My girlfriend doesnt have a blu ray player so having the extra dvd's has been really helpful. Lots of people had similar situations and when people whined about the big digipaks they even created a 3 disc case to satisfy them. - The pressing problems with some of their titles: Was a problem created by the manufacturers and have nothing to do with Criterion themselves. This even affected titles that went to other companies. Criterion offer a replacement program for those affected, what more do you want from them? - average to poor customer service: I will outright call this a stupid claim. It may take Jon Mulvaney a while to get to emails but with the volume of shit he has to respond to on a daily basis you cant expect him to get to everything in one day. They go way out of their way to try and satisfy their fans when it comes to rectifying issues, replacing damaged items and even little things that no other company would ever bother doing. When I asked Mulvaney about whether they did their dvd to blu ray replacement program he told me that they had unfortunately stopped and sent a $10 credit for my troubles. How many other companies would do that exactly? They're not perfect (like every other company) but they try a hell of a lot harder than most home video labels. Don't expect announcements until the sixteenth of every month, and never be disappointed again.

To give it in numbers; 1 Blu-ray plus shipping minus coupon adds up to $27.67. No further costs to be expected. Compared to normal price; 1 Blu-ray plus shipping $32.75. Import & customs: an extra $27. Total: about $60... Or how a five dollar discount makes a thirty two dollar difference ! ![]() |
