I've never seen H C, I have no desire to, I just recall buying the DVD for Sweet Movie and getting rid of it instantly. I can tolerate many things but that movie isn't one of them. in fact it wasn't a film, just an experiment in bad filmmaking that featured John Vernon. honestly there was no point. I know it has some followers, it bored me to tears.

If it means plastering UV code inclusions on the cover or rear art then I would pay Criterion an extra 5.00 per title so I didn't have to look at those logos ruining good artwork. If they just simply put a stick on the plastic wrap and then a piece of disposable paper inside case then I would care less.

Green For Danger is great. It was screened in one of my classes at uni and I went out and bought the DVD straight after.

I went thru a Dušan Makavejev phase a few years ago. I was surprised to find out that Joshua Oppenheimer studied under him.

I'm sure that this was addressed recently, with it ultimately being assumed that Criterion wouldnt be able to do a deal with UV because of their agreement with Hulu.

no it doesn't. it only persuades people to have a more open mind about a title.

that is any blind buy. and anybody with any amount of intelligence can fairly evaluate how much they did or didn't like a film.

Would be cool to see Criterion realise some newer films:

Tales of Tales
Youth

etc etc

I know Youth will be coming but yeah come on

This is a fair argument. Also the fact that Criterion has credibility, it convinces people to invest more attention to a film. That said, I have engaged with plenty of films on cable (especially channels like TCM) that I would love to see in the Collection.

I know that the Hercules in New York comment was a joke, and Criterion would not tarnish their credibility by releasing such a heaping pile (even though it is a blast). But on the other hand, the film has an interesting story, and yes, I would be all over buying a Criterion version. That's yet another thing I like about Criterion is that the release is not solely about the release, but also the history or story behind the film. They provide proper context that enhances the viewing. Even though it would never happen, if they pursued this release, they would make it worth watching.

That would be an interesting title for one of Criterion's "Themes". Although I think they'd have to put about half their titles in that one, including all my favorites.

I've got this month's MoC titles ready to go, but I'm waiting for the sun to go down before I put one on. Hopefully the Criterion news will drop before the sun goes down too. At the moment I'm thinking the Fuller is the way to go (esp. as I've finally bought a copy of his legendary autobiography) but I'm really intrigued about A Letter To Three Wives too.

Not Criterion related, of course, but does anyone have any thoughts?

That's my Boston Terrier pup, Godard, there, making a cameo appearance.

On a related cinephilia note, Apichatpong Weerasethakul is a big fan of the Boston Terrier. Here's a photo that he posted on Twitter earlier this week, surrounded by the magnificent creatures.
