I'd love to have at least the first Infernal Affairs. And some of Takeshi Kitano's work.

A double bill with Suicide Club and Noriko's Dinner Table would be awesome. Suicide Circle is a lot more complex than some who see it think, and Noriko is just a brilliant spin-off from it.

Well I'm in the mood for an Asian film binge tonight

Reminds me, Criterion need to upgrade Onibaba :P I am in no rush though as I have Masters of Cinema's edition.

Kwaidan upgrade would be cool too!

Pulse would be a dream Criterion. Also would love Bright Future, Doppelgänger, Tokyo Sonata.

Cure is going to happen someday. I remember that being confirmed somewhere, but I forget where.

Couldn't wait until the Criterion sale started, so I decided to take advantage of the 40% off Blu-ray sale B&N are having right now. Picked up Fellini Satyricon, Paths of Glory, Macbeth, and Throne of Blood. All blind buys, but then again a majority of my Criterion purchases are blind buys and I'm almost always satisfied. Any suggestions on which one I should view first? Considering watching Macbeth and Throne of Blood back to back.

I went on a Shakespeare binge a couple of months ago because I was basically illiterate when it came to his plays, and Polanski's Macbeth was my favorite, along with Olivier's Richard III. Just be prepared for a lot of blood with Macbeth!

The one thing that bothers me about B&N is how it packages single item shipments. I just got State of Siege through the sale and it was practically suffocated. Fortunately the Scanovo case saved it from damage. One time I bought a Digipak from there and it was ruined when it arrived. I try to make it a point to at least grab 2-3 discs at a time just to get better packaging.

I liked the original better. This one just seems too right-heavy now, with the bulk of the landscape, and text being on that side. The title just seems to be floating out there, making the whole thing look less balanced now. I also don't care to see Wes Anderson's name directly below the title, it just makes it look noisier. I see no reason why they had to add his name at all

The sticker there doesn't help, when its removed it should feel a bit more spacious and less heavy in that area ^^

I like it, both were good tbh, and yeah I think we all know who directed Moonrise Kingdom :P so don't think it was 100% needed but oh well lol

although I don't care for this Bluray I completely agree.
There was no reason to add the name.
(unless he made a contract for his name to appear on the Criterion covers)

You could argue why they add other directors names to other release, the even add actors names sometimes.

Seems like you are complaining just because its Wes Anderson lol

I don't think it's needed, but if they had to put his name on it, I'd rather it be somewhere else. Having it directly below is just a poor aesthetic choice. Perhaps if it were a different font that could work, but I'd rather greater separation there.

I disagree, it work very well imo, and many designs follow the same look, MANY Criterion designs do it too.

Put it somewhere else and it will just be very detached from the title and just look silly by itself, it needs to follow hierarchy which is what its doing.

When I saw the first cover I didn't think I liked the yellow. When I saw the cover w/o the title in yellow I could see why they added it. It still seemed heavy which is why I thought coloring the C might add balance. I do respect keeping to their standards with the Criterion C. I like this version even if it seems right heavy.

So do you find the placement of WA's name here to be silly? To me it looks much nicer than if it were directly below the title.

I also don't feel anything wrong with detaching the director's name from the title itself. This isn't like "John Carpenter's The Thing" Wes Anderson is the director, yes, but in no way does he have to be a sub-text for the title too. The majority of Anderson films from CC don't mention his name on the cover at all, and if they do, it's usually separated greatly from the title. I'd say most CC releases have greater separation between them too, or there is something used to make it distnct (different font, color, etc..)

It works well here because everything is centred and following the same rules ^^

Having it entered on MC wouldn't work because the image guiding you to the right, having in the center would be uncomfortable and make it awkward, of course this can work for some designs, but I feel it wouldn't work here, especially when it would be near the second title 'Moonrise Kingdom' on beach and would just bring more attention to it.

As I said before:

The design would work better in a digipak, where the inner packaging is simply JUST the artwork with no text and it opens to reveal the scene.

For the outer case keep the same colour and font but have a different image that has a better relationship with the text.

Didn't realise the new painting is meant to mimic this scene:

The text would work better with that painting image because there is more vibrant colours lol although its a very busy painting so text would get lost.

For the digipak idea they could have simply used this artwork and just adjusted it accordingly. Or even had the artist above replicate that artwork below so the styles match ^^
