Sanjuro is currently $18.99 on Amazon.com. According to the BR.com price tracker that is the cheapest its ever been. I just placed my order. Ive never seen the film. Heck Ive never seen a Kurosawa film so Im very excited.

It's a fun film. It's a sequel to Yojimbo, though I don't think you'll be lost...

Just got back from B&N, and the 15% off coupon is good for anyone. I just picked up Ministry of Fear for $16.67 with tax, so with the coupon and the 40% off sale, it's basically the same price as the July sale will be.

Sorry, Polaroid.

They're only the same in terms of character, though, no?

Anyway, I much preferred Sanjuro to Yojimbo.

Yeah, that's why I said 'I don't think you'll (he'll) be lost.'

I preferred Yojimbo from memory, though both could do with a rewatch!

I noticed you have the Man With No Name trilogy. If you've watched A Fistful of Dollars, then you have kind of seen a Kurosawa movie, which is, coincidentally, almost a shot-for-shot remake of Yojimbo, the film Sanjuro is a sequel of.

Watched A Master Builder and Ride the Pink Horse recently and found both fascinatingly interesting. Neither was a great film but both so interesting. Pink Horse was a really cool noir and Builder while not amazing kept my attention wondering what was going on in the character's heads. It was a challenge to follow what the young girl was thinking or whether she was even all there. The ending explains it though. Really looking forward to seeing Dinner With Andre now. Pink Horse was just cool, probably my best description for it.

Ever since I found this out, and furthermore after watching both Fistful and Yojimbo, I despise Leone's film so much.

I've had the same feelings. It's always been a favorite film of mine, but when I was younger I just enjoyed the dinosaurs escaping. But ever since getting into film a few years ago, I've loved it even more. Now I see the wonderful direction by Spielberg, the vivid colors and light he uses, and of course the tension like you mentioned. Right before the T-Rex escapes, Spielberg shows us the control room reacting to the park's fences failing and Nedry escaping. It's a really tense sequence all culminating in that rainy Tyrannosaur break-out.

Does anyone own any of the film posters that Criterion sell? What are your thoughts on them? Would you recommend owning any?

Noteworthy number of Criterion BDs at my Costco for $19.99. Badlands, The Game, The Rose, Paths Of Glory, Cries and Whispers (Bergman at Costco?!), Tootsie, The Royal Tenenbaums.

I finally just caved in and had to buy The Cranes Are Flying. I watched it sometime time after blind-buying Letter Never Sent a couple of years ago, and fell absolutely in love with all aspects of this movie,, the story, cinematography, Tatyana Samoilova. I decided to just wait til the Blu comes out before buying, but I just can't take it anymore... "oiling and lotioning, lotioning and oiling. I can't take this no more" (Squints).
Any projections on when they'll upgrade? Post some thoughts on how you feel about Cranes or Letter Never Sent, would love to hear.

I bought the A Hard Day's Night one for my daughter and put it in a clip frame; it looks really great on the wall

(Point of note, they will ship posters overseas and will do it by courier, at cost - I think they reckoned about $30 to the UK, but as I was going to the States anyway I had it delivered to the office. It comes in a stout poster tube and it was no problem hand carrying it on the plane).

Youc an get Criterion to arrange delivery costs, but they also let you sort out postal costs too.

I really hope you don't regret it.
if you noticed our last discussion on the subject, the opinions differ very much on Tati.

i would be interested to hear your opinion too, as a first time viewer.

Wonderful films. There's something special about the stark Russian landscapes and b&w photography that just seems three dimensional at times. Ivan's Childhood and The Ascent are a couple of others that also come to mind in that regard.

You might as well wait for the sale and get the Yojimbo/Sanjuro box. Yojimbo is the better film but you won't be disappointed by either film.

If you enjoy those you can check out Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo.

Incredible set. I can't believe the widespread distaste for Tati here, but alas, comedy is very subjective.
